Was going along my usual daily commute, get to the bit that is two lanes which go into 1 with a bus lane on the left

I'm going down the left hand lane about to join trafic on my right, suddenly some kid jumps out a car and goes straight in my path, luckily I was doing the speed limit or less else I would have went straight into him.

Panic braked, wet roads so bike hits the deck, skids along the ground and takes the kid out by his ankles, I get up and just see him laying on the ground, "Fuck." thought he was badly injured, but nope he wasn't, his dad was like get up and the kid got up and got back in the car.

Got his reg and insurance company along with name and telephone number, and a witness who saw the whole thing and will probably back me up that it wasn't my fault.

So the guy leaves after exchanging details, i'm into my emergency tool kit, the chains hanging off somehow, spanners too shit to loosen rear axle, give a call to a couple of bike places and they say they're not open till 9 and wont come out to 'put a chain back on'
So I ring the garage that fixed my bike last time and got some advice, he says put the chain on the top of the sprocket and roll it backwards, wont be good for the chain but should get it back on, did it and got it back on, huzzah!

But. The bike wouldn't start. The ignition feels weird, the clocks are bent back and broke, again. I check it out and seems liek the ignition barrel has broke, heres like a blue plastic thing with the contacts with the electric start wired into it, so I figure I just need to complete the circuit. I join the connections with a spanner and try the starter chugchugchug but it wouldnt start, trying with the kcik start still no luck. Didn't try bump starting as I have to hold the spanner completing the circuit and it was tricky.

Had no mobile phone on me (was using the drivers to call garages before he left) my phone got trashed by the rain and I happened to not bring it in the morning as it was dead batteried.

So, I see a cop car coming down, give them a wave and they let me use their crazy car phone, then they say "from what i've heard you say you need to report this as an incident within 24 hours else you can get 'done"

So i've got to do that too, didn't even occur to me, was jsut going to ring insurance and tell them (is it worth me even doing that?)

I didn't hit the car, just the person, I wasnt on the bike when it hit them either..

You're probably lolling at me, having another crash so soon after sorting my bike out and fucking it up before, but in my eyes I was utterly not at fault here, I wish I had swerved or turned hardcore to avoid him instead of slamming the brakes, but panic mode struck in and I really didn't want to seriously injure someone. When I got up and saw him just laying on the road barely moving I was like Shocked Shocked
But then he seemed fine...

The police confirmed he did go to the hospital and that we both need to report it.

Great more money, right before the BBQ too. Don't know where to go from here really. Hopefully will still be going. Thumbs Up

Protip:

If your chain comes off and you need to get it back on - get at least a few links over some teeth on the back sprocket, and wheel the bike backwards, it should jump onto the sprocket. Thumbs Up

Protip 2:

If your chain comes off of your bike it is too loose and was probably an accident waiting to happen.

Exactly what I did if you read the post Thumbs Up Wink
Very good tip though, that'll be with me till I die.

Very strange the chain came off, first time i'd seen that happen and it's tighter than it used to be

I know right, seems they're trying to kill me, been nothing but drama and trouble recently, not just with my bike either.
But the first crash was retarded and my fault, this one was retarded and someone elses fault

Still beating myself up about it though, go through all the what-if's but it's pointless, is what it is, just gotta deal with it

Wrist hurts, knees grazed Thumbs Down
Armour in my trousers once again was too low when i came off, knee took another clunk, need new trousers too now. Money is tight now, very tight.

It was his fault for doing such a stupid thing, but it was my fault I didn't handle the bike better Thumbs Up

Was very wet roads too, if I tried to swerve him he could have jumped either side and I wouldnt have slowed down as much and he'd have been a lot worse off Thumbs Up

HIndisght is a wonderful thing, guys. No one, and I mean NO ONE, would expect or anticipate someone jumping out of a car to their right!

Alpha, I don't think many would have done much differently to you, i.e. grab the brakes and close their eyes. You were just unlucky that it was wet out.

100% the kid's fault, no matter how this pans out.

How would that be done then if doing 28 in a 30 limit in a clear lane and some nobber jumps out of a car on the other side of the road and takes you out?

+1

It's a speed limit, not a target. Also in the wet your 2 second rule is now a 4 second one.

How do you judge a 4 second rule on someone who is sat in a car on the other side of the road?

Alpha. Get a helmet cam. Wink

Unlucky on the accident. His insurance should cover passengers getting in and out of the vehicle. Whether they will pay out without a fight or not, I don't know. Good luck.

The paint diagram doesn't show up in the original post due to some crazy redirect thing the webhost has going on
It's probably cached so you see it.
