Hmm failed my mod 1 last week, in the pouring rain. 46kph and 47kph on my emergency stop. Yeh my fault, angry with myself for not going faster. 0 minors.

Had my second fail today, foot down on the transition from the slalom to the figure of eight. It was the 8:30 slot and I had just got off my bike and on to the 500, probably would have been fine with 10 mins warm up on the 500 Sad did the emergency stop and swerve fine. 1 minor.

Just feel a bit down about what to do. Should I continue with the DAS then I can get any bike I want to go with, (ideally a transalp or similar) or go 125 and go restricted.

The issue is getting free slots which aren't at 8:30 or 9:00 so I can get a few mins in before with the 500. The first slot outside of that time isn't till mid August! If I go restriced on my own bike i'll be more used to the bike so no need to warm up.

I have a Cagiva atm, but they thing really isn't suitable for the test, far too twitchy on the revs at low throttle. TBH 125's are fine for 90% of what I do, commuting and such but I some times have to go to Newcastle, Leed or Liverpool (Live in Manchester) so a more powerful bike would be better.

Stick with the 500. It will be worth it and you're only a gnat's cock off nailing it Thumbs Up

Don't give up!

Mod 1 is the cheapest one, but also more difficult on a bigger bike that you use in DAS. You'll nail it eventually and will be able to go on to do mod 2, which is just driving safely and the same for any size of bike in terms of difficulty.

I failed my mod 2 when I did it but rebooked quickly and passed it, was worth it.

Rebook and try again, it'll be worth it when you're sat on your transalp!

Keep at it - you're so close. The Mod 1 is the more difficult one, to me, because you are right under the nose of the examiner, and every fault is blazingly obvious. Keep at it - take a deep relaxing breath before each manoevre and relax your arms and shoulders. Tick off each one as it goes, and don't fret if you possibly can. Look at all the "I passed mod 1" threads on here - do you really think that all those people are capable of something that you aren't?
Doing it on the big bike is SO worth it - it's just as tricky on a tiddler so you might as well persevere.
I failed my mod 1 the first time with a foot dab on the slalom/figure 8 and had three weeks to obsess over it and almost convince myself that I would never do it under test conditions. Got a re-sit slot and with the relaxing technique, nailed it with zero minors. Mod 2 the following week was passed on a very ragged ride with a few stalls, wobbles, poor lines etc.
J.F.D.I. as Nike would love to say it.

Eh? With hindsight, I'd loved to have done mod 1 on a 500+. Apart from the wheeling it around, I can't think what part would be harder.

Yeah, I agree. The ER5 is not so much bigger than a 125 that it struggles to fit around the cones. It is more stable than a 125 because of the increased weight; so apart from the manual handling, bigger is better.
Once you 'get' that swoosh/swoosh of the slalom, everything else on the mod 1 is easier on a 500 - particularly the higher speed parts when you can leave it in 2nd gear and easily make the speed for the swerve/e-stop etc.

Thanks for the support.

Its just a bit disheartening when its small silly things. I think I just need to have a lession to warm up on the bike before the test.

The seating position on the 500 is more feet below than on my 125. I think it was simply that which foxed me on the second test and my balance was a bit out.

I don't mind wheeling the 500 about, its a good 70kg heavier than my 125, and the COG is higher but it feels fine against my hip.

Yeah I'd say keep on with the full DAS you can't give up now. When I got my "big bike" it felt so much easier for low speed deelys than the ER5 and 6 I trained on

Well, the wheeling around Laughing

I'd have thought the figure of 8 and slalom would be harder as well as the emergency stop etc. 500s are heavier so take more to stop them surely?

Just going off what the instructors said when I did my training (125cc).

I think its the opposite, the slalom and figure 8 maneuvers is easier on a bigger bike.

The wheeling it about bit on that stupid parking space crap is perhaps a little trickier, due to weight, but if you struggle with that you will probably forget to put your clothes on in the morning as well.

when i went for my first practice lesson there was a woman there to get some practice in for her mod1. the guy goes around, gets out an ER5 and says "you dont mind if she goes first do you?"

my simple responce was "like hell im getting on that, go for it! im only here for 125 practice" lol. they really are so much bigger than 125's
