Hi soon i'll be completing my mod 1 and 2, i'll be on a 33bhp restricted licence and im going to get an offroad bike for green laning. It will need to be suitable for both green laning and riding on country roads.

Im looking at getting an XR250 or a TTR250, locally a TTR250 open enduro model has come up for sale, it looks to be in very good condition and has been well looked after what im wondering is what i should pay for it and would you buy one? The only thing that concerns me is that it's nearly 20 years old so should i avoid it?

Good bikes, for that year about £1000-£1200 for a decent one.

Would its age put you off?

If it's been looked after then no. I have a '94 and a '96. They are rock solid bikes unless they've been totally abused. Listen for an almighty clunk when you switch the engine off. This indicates the sprag clutch is worn. If you don't replace this it can cause expensive damage to the starter system. It's also a good haggling point. Wink
