I've bought a Roxter Optimiser, which is meant to be similar to the Oxford Oximiser 600.

I originally wanted it for recovering a discharged battery, which it didn't manage, but I'd now like to use it to maintain the new battery. It comes with permanent rings which is handy.

The guide says it will trickle charge at a lower rate when it detects the battery is at 14.3 volts, but surely this could still overcharge it?

My bike has an alarm, and I'd like to leave it connected to something to prevent the situation I've just had where I've killed the battery.

So can I leave it connected all the time, or should I just plug it in once a week or the like?

I know with the Optimates you can as they shut off charging, as opposed to carrying on at a lower rate.

Cheers for the help!

The trickle charge is just a thyrisoristic diode electrickey in the circuit that pumps a wee bit of volts into the battery as the charge leaks off.
It shouldn't do it any harm.
Lead acid batteries cannot be recovered.
They die when the are left flatted for any substanial amount of time.
Why did it need recovered? Mibby fcuked and that's why it was flat.

I run my Oximiser 600 every few weeks overnight to keep the battery in check, And i have a small £10 solar panel connected the rest of the time.

Everytime i plug the Oximiser in it always goes straight to green, sometimes it good to just have that piece of mind that you know it will start when you need it.

Can't see it doing any harm if you leave it on all the time, thats what its designed to do. Thumbs Up

I have known several of the fully automatic chargers that can be left connected fail and boil the battery to death, saying that they are all I use but I don't leave them connected for long periods, overnight at the most, I also keep a chart that I log the charging on and charge each of the bikes batteries monthly, especially through the winter.
