I seem to have done 'something' to my arm.

Have been doing a lot of heavy lifting recently. Also a few hours indoor bouldering on Sunday. Though it was a day or two after this that I noticed it.

Now if I try to fully extend my arm, it hurts inside the elbow. Same feeling when fully bending it. Other arm is fine.

Internet generally says ice it and let it rest.

Any ideas on specifics of what's likely to be wrong?
And if so, anything specific I should do?

You've stretched or torn your brachialis I reckon.

Dr swampy says rest, ice, and elevation. Along with regular brufen, paracetemol and a small dose of mtfu... Thumbs Up

I tried to put up a 5.2m high 1.2m wide support for some pallet racking that can take 2t per shelf by myself earlier.
Ok, I gave up at 45 degrees as I was a tad worried it was going to fall on me, so maybe I should take your advice Smile.
(Once I got help, I continued Smile ).

Ta for the thoughts. Not worried by the pain, which isn't too bad and can just not fully extend my arm Smile. Just want it working properly as soon as possible as got lots more heavy lifting to do Sad.
Never found ibuprofen made a noticeable difference for me, including for various inflammation-based issues.

Also, forgot to mention - got a bit of a bruise in the little dip between bicep and shoulder. Suspect it's not directly related, but had wondered if maybe I'd mashed some, err, 'arm-movey-stuff'. Presumably from carrying various bits of said racking etc.

G if ya hurt it and don't rest it properly, expect it to get worse mate.

heated pad type things can help, but rest is the quickest cure.

tablets for pain work best if you dose up regular rather then wait for pain to become annoying again...so every four hours sort of thing regardless
(but do read label etc.. Thumbs Up )

Another bit of passed on 'wisdom' that is untrue... Do you think any other animal takes a sick day for a twisted elbow? Doctors know this nowadays, which is why even at a private hospital I was wheeled to the exit hours after my knee surgery and sent on my way without even getting a crutch.

Do what's natural, your body will know what's best for the injury. Avoid the pain rather than fighting through it - pain is there for a reason.

Having said all that, docs is probably a good call - same symptoms as one of the times I broke my elbow.

While googling for it, I did find some stuff suggesting this, but as it didn't happen suddenly - I don't specifically recall when I first noticed it and haven't been in any likely situations to cause a break - I don't think it is.

Bit busy at the moment, so prefer to avoid waiting around at the Doctors.

Sounds like an RSI, like tennis elbow or wankers cramp. Best to take an anti-inflamatory and delegate...

A limp wrist means you are a Gay, so a limp elbow must mean you are a Gary Glitter.

An update; oddly enough, hardly got any better.

Did get said racking up on my own thanks to some rope and some science. (I've been trying to climb said racking just using left arm, but still need to use right for some bits.)

I've been avoiding anything that hurts it, but wonder if it'll cause any long-term problems if I keep using it for the moment?
Sadly I really don't have any useful choice right now; far too much to do.

Get up early and go to A&E - they're empty at 5am.

But I don't like getting up early Sad.

If it was that, what would the Doctor likely say Stinkwheel?
Also, what would the result be if I ignored what they said for a few weeks?

It's more often if you dislocate the elbow in fairness but it's just about possible to do it if you tried to lift something massively heavy with the arm fully extended.

They'd send you for an x-ray if they were suspicious.

Dealt with immediately, they usually put a cast on for six weeks. Ignored and it has to be wired back on and you don't have to wear a cast...

You have six days to fix a fracture before it's classed as a non-union.

Ta... I think Lordshaftsbury has you on worst case..

Over six days now and really don't have the option of a cast this second. Have lifted slightly heavy things with the arm straight down, but a fair bit less heavy than what I was doing the previous week.

Mmmh not sure those two points don't agree with each other
" don't rest it properly, expect it to get worse mate."
"Avoid the pain rather than fighting through it - pain is there for a reason."

surely not doing the activity that causes pain is in some way resting it.
and doing the activity risks the damage ..
A, not healing
B. getting worse

and on the animal front any one who has ever had a pet will notice how it limps if it injures it's paws for instance.
which is an animals way of resting the injured limb until it can get to an A&E dept.... Laughing

the point is valid that using the injured part as normal will not aid in its recovery, unfortunately.

G this may be of help in pointing out how resting may be useful..

It does generally seem to be a bit better; lifting fairly heavy stuff fine and can get a bit more extension - but won't go to full extension.

May try and book a doctor's appointment, but still silly-busy and really don't have any choice at the moment.
