... that i quit smoking.
Strangely the last few weeks have seen a return of the nasty little cravings to smoke. Not enough to be a real problem, but there all the same.

Anyway, i feel loads better now - more energy, more money, more time.

If you are thinking of quitting, go for it.

I have never smoked, but lately I have had the urge to smoke a cigar, one of those big fat things.

My other half has been trying. Actually pains me to know that she smokes to be honest... she knows how I feel about it and why I dislike it... but she tried quiting then gave in again.

Fair play for doing 6 months! I suppose some people really try to do it..some just give in too easy Thumbs Up

I gave up smoking something like 3 years ago, and I still have to actively fight the urge. I keep having dreams where I've been caught buying a pack of fags!

I knocked them on the head back in March, only had two falls off the wagon, each being an evening out on the pop, and to be honest didn't feel the craving the next day, or at all thereafter. Won't be fooled into thinking I can get away with smoking socially though, I think Alan Carr was on the money when he noted that you start smoking socially and before you know it you are a regular smoker again, been there done that. So where I can muster the willpower I avoid it, and don;t feel like I'm missing out on anything (because in reality I'm not).

Got the BCF BBQ this weekend and no doubt I'll have a few over the period but nowhere near as many as I would have normally.

Going boxing 5 times a week has definitely helped keep the motivation up, as when I first started I was a wheezing pile of shit, whereas now.... well I'm still a wheezing pile of shit but able to make it a few more rounds before I collapse whining for my mammy, and I walk out feeling very good overall.

I smoke 20 a day and it's seriously not good. It's like my only real vice though, I don't drink or take drugs (much) anymore. It's a real stress reliever but it's also absolutely horrible and not to mention stupidly expensive.

Nah I'll be a willing participant, I like to indulge myself when I'm on a Jolly outing, plus with drinking so much it's inevitable I'd cave at some point anyway. Box of 10 will last me the weekend I'm sure. That#s one thing I don't miss, spending shit loads of money on smokes, easily a £20 a week habit, which is fugging ridiculous when you think about it. Anyways, I'll mostly enjoy the herbals on offer which should stave me off the foul nicotine alone.

Been 6 months for me too. Had 3 since then, two broken bike-related when a smoking friend has been helping me, and a puff on a 'j' in a park watching the Stone Roses.

I can honestly say that it does get easier on a day to day level. I only think about tabs now if I see/smell one, and it usually revolts me. What doesn't get any easier however is the desire to smoke when under stress and when I know nobody else (i.e. my Mrs & kids) will find out....

Just don't give in to the 'oo I can deal with a quick puff' urge. Eventually they stop too Smile

I gave up 8 years ago, but if someones having a fag I don't mind standing near them Smile

I do not miss that old smoke smell on clothes or in the house though.
If you buy something through ebay and it comes from a smokers house it reeks!! Sad

It's actually not though. The only stress it alleviates is the stress the fags cause.

I gave up for six weeks then had quite a stressful day with lots of little things going wrong, i gave in and pinched a ciggi off a mate.

That was about 3 weeks ago and i can go for days without wanting another but when i get the itch i give in and buy a box of 10, these will last a few days then i'll try without again.

It's something that i don't enjoy anymore (never did really) but i can't get my head round living without them in one way or another.

Well done to those that can give up long term.

I'll have given up nearly three years now. It's not something I actually crave to give into anymore. I'll happily sit outside a pub with a mate while they have a cig. I'm not tempted, don't get me wrong though if they didn't make me feel like shit when I smoked i'd probably still do it.

I put on a shitload of weight when I gave up (3 n a half stone!!).
I did used to 'eat' ciggies for brekky and dinner then just eat tea later if I could be bothered.

Got some of it off again but still ended up way more hefty than before I gave up!

Well done mate. I'm aiming to quit after Global Gathering as I know I'll smoke a fuckload then, regardless of willpower.

Got myself an e-cig, not a bad subsitute, been four days now without a proper fag and to be honest, I don't need to have many puffs on it, it seems more like a safety blanket at the moment - knowing its there etc and breaking up the day a bit. Also started lifting again, about 6 weeks ago, thats really helped motivate me to do it to be honest.

Eight or nine years since I quit and I still get the odd urge but it passes quickly enough. If I see anyone smoking on the street I will cross the road top avoid their smoke and the smell.

I quit smoking just over a year ago, 9th May to be exact.

I was on 20 a day which at £7.00 plus a pack has meant a decent saving!

The motivating factor for me came when my daughter was tall enough to see out of our bedroom window. I would slope out of bed, kettle on and straight out the back door. That morning I heard a tap at the upstairs window and there she was, my little girl was on tippy toes and looking at me wondering what I was doing. I just felt sick with guilt tbh as she'd never seen me smoke before.

I knew it'd be hard, so I went to the doctors and demanded a course of Champix tabs (funnily enough, I heard about it first when listening to Stephen Fry's audiobook, so I'll thank him next time I see him).

These tabs do alter your brain, but did wonders. Cigs tasted like rust within two weeks and I just couldn't finish one! They do also make you a complete lightweight and I got very open with my opinions on stuff after 2 beers, but I wouldn't have like to have tried without them.

What makes you realise how powerful cigarettes are is that though I wasnt having cravings, it was the best part of a year before I stopped thinking about having a smoke every evening.

Good luck to everybody who tries, it's a hard slog, but definitely worth it. Just keep your head down and keep going. It gets easier. Cool

Cheers guys!
And well done to everyone who has ever quit.

Nicotine is a nasty drug that is very clever at keeping you hooked. I quit using the Allen Carr book. When the cravings got bad i just went out for a good long walk - seemed to do the trick.
Thumbs Up
