Hi All,
I am new to bike world, but fast learner.
I bought used 2009 Aprilia rs125. Its Full power Version.
Serviced it, Clutch Oil, new spark plug, new starter motor, engine coolnant, new tyres, new battery etc. (battery Power is between 12-14)

It has arrow exhaust, and original Carb with original main jet.

When i bought the bike, it was not building the compression, so i had top end rebuild, after that compression is fine now.

I removed the carb and completed cleaned it out all parts of carb. Left needle setting as it is.

Cleaned out the air filter etc.

Bike started all ok, i have ridden it few times.

But i always have started up issues with it, i noticed it misses , issues was traced down to spark plug.

I replaced the 2 week old spark plug and bike started all ok.

(Can anyone tell me how long would spark plug should last?)

I am using original correct recommended NGK spark plug.

Now even with new plug it does not start sometime, I have to remove the spark plug and clean it up - then bike starts up.

i always notice that sparkplug is always wet with fuel. Could it be too much fuel going in ? flooding

I do gently race the bike when i start it up?

any idea what could be wrong?

Depends how much you use your bike.

Could be running rich

How do you gently race a bike?

Hi Mate thanks for getting back,

I have only done 20-30 miles with new spark plug.

What do i need to reduce the richness?
tighten the mixture screw by half turn and check.

I race gently? do i need to race?
Bike should start without being raced.

I do turn turn the choke on as well.

I have been reading about the spark plugs in the forum and i should use BR10EG instead of BR10ES. Is that correct?

Thanks

I had one - bought it brand new in 2006 - if you get caught in heavy rain it will flood the part of the engine where the spark plug is and cut out - so all you need do is dry it off. I once had trouble starting and replaced the spark plug and everything was fine, but the plug I took out was normal colour. Then there was the time I couldn't get it started for love nor money - I paid for it to be sent over to Padgett's where all the work on my bike was done and it turned out that the vacuum tube had come off - fuel related - so look there to make sure it is on right. Failing that I would say carb needs sorting. Hope yhis helps

I had the bike for 2 1/2 years and only changed the plug once - when I had trouble starting it - to be honest a clean with a wire brush etc and checking the HT lead was clean and connected properly would probably have done the trick, but a plug isn't expensive so I just changed it. I can't remember which plug I used - a GNK i think. If you have the little hand book - it tells you in there which plug to use - thats the one I bought (the one it said in the book).

I've just done a search - the BR 10 EGV is a bit pricey but a good plug.
The BR 10 EIX is a more costly Iridium plug, but apparently the normal plug works better - the BR 10 EGV there is also as far as I know the bog standard BR 10 GV. I'd go for the EVG.
