come on then BCF, how many times did you drop, crash, get hit, slide (aka wheels are going, almost coming off but recovering from it) and get smidy'd in your first 12 months on the road?

Well I'm 7 months in..........

drop - 0 (close a couple of times on ice at slow speed)

crash - 0

get hit - 0

slide - too many Embarassed well not really sliding, more back end spinning up due to too aggressive engine braking. Still learning. Got some wheelspin at 70mph which was interesting. Went back to check the road and still confuzzled me how it happened.

smidy'd - 1 memorable one by some old codger who then had a go at me for it and then ran away. He lost his wing mirror, not sure how Thinking

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

First Year

Crashed - 0
Got hit - 0

Slide - quite a few, mainly because i was using my back brake a lot at first

drop - 1 - laid it down very gently trying to do a slow u turn on a 20% gradient hill

crash - 1 - Blind ~120degree bend, workmen decided to cover the road in fine gravel, nowhere to go, low sided and hit a wall at 20mph. Completely wrecked the front of the bike, fractured shin and heel (on opposite legs... Rolling Eyes )

get hit - 1 - Couple of months ago, SMIDSY from a woman in a Ka trying to take a shortcut in stationary traffic while i was going past her. Bent subframe, Completely shattered my collar bone (about 30 pieces apparently, dislocated shoulder, bruised spine, various loss of skin etc. )

slide - A few during the cold spell nothing major.

smidy'd - other than the one that hit me, a couple of oblivious people but nothing where i didn't have enough reaction time.

Bike is still on the road though, I'm hoping I've used up all of the bad luck Laughing .

I'm gonna make a clarification here.

I don't know about anyone else but the wording is grating on me.

For me

Drop, The bike falls whilst in your care and stationary/slow moving in a drive/petrol station etc.

Crash, Unscheduled dismount, falling off/hitting something whilst riding.

Get hit, being hit by a moving vehicle/pedrestian

Slide is pointless, I couldn't tell you how many times I slid on the way to work this morning let alone in my first year.

That's how I define the words as well.

Dropped my ped once.

No Crashes, No Off's, No Drops, No Hits.

Slides as in power slides and bike moving about under brakes then loads.

Slides as in oh shit I'm gonna come off...Just the one when I hit gravel on a bend but nothing to really worry about.

Couple of SMIDSY but even those weren't anything to write home
about.

Personally I think having a brand new bike focuses the mind but I'm sure others will disagree.

Thumbs Up

None for the first three, then twice in a year (both my fault), then nothing since (touch wood).

It's a narrow country lane just wide enough for a car probably doing no more than 5mph..The old divvys built like a tank Very Happy

Only 3 and a half months in (feels like much longer), but:

drop - 0
crash - 0
get hit - 0
slide - 0, excluding emergency stop practice runs and one very slight slip on gravel (didn't result in an off as I was already going slow after seeing the gravel).
smidy'd - 0

Done around 4,000 miles in that time though. I ride everywhere now, barely use the car at all.

err, twas only a few years ago but its difficult to remember Smile

only thing of note was 6 months after passing my test I had my first trackday on my road bike (CBR600F 97). rode 160 miles up to cadwell the night before, took it on track and 2 minutes before the end of the session I managed to dig my pegs in due to sheer inexperience in body position and lift the back wheel lowsiding me..

was at charles so i was going a pretty pace.. i comfortably slid off the track onto the grass and got up only to find out my bike had take up gymnastics and performed a double turn 2 half twist dismount landing on its head and arse.. it was mullered.

got it recovered home and got a lift with one of the group i was there with who didnt live too far from me.

got it home.. thing started 1st time! good old honda

rebuilt it and its been my trackbike for the last 3+ years Very Happy

bought a CBR600F 98 after that and now got my blade and other than falling off my blade after stalling it on the driveway once (was so pissed with myself) I've been pretty luck thus-far. /touch wood

Never did any of them, however there was rarely a time I went out that I didn't almost have some minor incident.
That's how you learn really.

drop - 1 slipped on a manhole cover and pretty much threw the bike away from me as i fell

crash - 2, one entering a layby too fast, hit the curb and ended up catapulting myself over the fence into the adjacent field, the other i lost the back end going for kneedown when i gave it a handful mid corner

get hit - 0

slide - 0

smidy'd - 0

Few hairy moments every now and then but never dropped a bike yet. The first year was basically bad judgement and lack of experience, nearly went into the back of a truck once, lost back end a few times etc. but I learnt quickly and passed my test as the L's are embarrassing. Now close calls are caused by me riding like a prat, the KTM is quite a handful but I always manage to sort it out Shifty

No incidents at all. Despite covering over 5,000 miles mostly around Eastern Europe. Very Happy

In the first year. . .

no drops

lots of slides due to crap braking on my part several of these led to crashes (with me hitting the road but no other objects)

no other crashes

smidsy's - commuting all year on a dinky bike in, out and between two cities so my life was pretty much made of smidsy's Wink
