Whilst I was out last night, I rode down a road with speed humps, but the individual ones where you can ride either side to avoid them...and I wondered, as they are so 'pronounced / high' do you have to go over them when doing your Mod2 or can you go round them? Sorry if this is a stupid question :/

I think on MOD 2 you are meant to go over them. The logic being that you should be going slow enough that they are not a bother and also if you go round them you are either heading towards the oncoming lane or towards the pavment which is not acceptable. Obviously in the real world you slalom happily round them doing twice the speed limit.

My instructor told me to go around them, as it happened I didn't encounter any on the test though.

Best to ride over them on mod2.You will have enough to think about as it is obs etc .just a quick look in your mirrors because you are slowing down for the speed bump Thumbs Up

Providing it is safe to do so, and with correct obs, my instructor said go round the fuckers.

If safe to do so go around them, Only go over them if by going round them you would cause other traffic to stop or swerve.

Is the correct answer.

Why on earth would you purposely go over them? That just shows poor awareness and planning.

I went around them not over them... Nothing was said about it

Obviously if its one stupidly close to the kerb you'll go over it, or towards the middle of the road as long as there is nothing oncoming.

I actually asked my examiner this before my Module 2 last week. He seemed a little nonplussed by it; if its safe to do so, and with the correct obvs, go around. If you're not sure, or don't want something else to potentially cock up, just go over them. Parked cars on the left and passing traffic on the right would suggest going over them would be the better option.

Judge your actions according to the situation, but don't over-think it; you're not going to fail if you approach them sensibly.
