My AR125 has skinny tyres and when I am actually road legal on it I want to learn to get the knee down. I'm just wondering if the bike will come from below me because of the width of the tyres? The tyres arn't fully curved either, they are a bit curved then go quite flat at the sides.

i would also like to know if the skinny tyres are up to it on my NS125.

I like tying to take corners faster/tigher, and i've been trying the countesteering technique, which works great! But i'm always a bit sceptical about the tyres being too skinny... and afraid the bike may just slide.

take it a step at a time start off on a nice easy roundabout when you come towards it get ready to move your body over to the side of the bike and keep the bike as stable as possible let the bike take its own course at first stay at about 30mph or so and get a feel for your bike learn the points of balance and how different things affect the handling.second of all watch the bike racing on the telly it shows you the basics and inspires a good ride

hope it helped

You can get your knee down on any bike really.

The with of the tyres doesn't really come into it with just learning to get your knee down.

The only thing it may be an idea to do is get some decent tyres on the bike.

why do you want to get your knee down exactly? Do you wear sliders on the street? Take a good look at your tires and see just how far you are leaning over on them and you can see how much father you can go. the closer to the edge you get the less control you will have to regain a slide. you could always lean off the bike more instead of leaning the bike itself more.

I think people are often mistaken when they see a rider with their knee down. People put their knee down as a feeler gauge. having your foot pegs higher will also help you get your knee down if you really want it. On the street is not the best place to be doing this. you should go out for a track day in a safe environment with a good road surface. on the street there could be a little dirt or sand or rocks.

but if you really want to yes you can do it on little tires. they do it on gp bikes no problemo. but its more of a leaning off the bike thing as opposed to getting it over that far. if your not comfortable doing that then you will never touch your knee unless your riding a pocket bike Very Happy

A lot of people are always saying how "why get your knee down" and "knee down is only a feeler for how far over you are" and commonly, "whats the point"

No dis-respect to anyone that says this, but I personally find that 99% of the time, the people that say this can't get their knee's down Which doesn't mean nothing, doesn't mean their bad riders, doesn't mean NOTHING it just means that doesn't suit their riding style, which is fair enough.

But knee down on the roads, the only point in doing it is because it's fun! It's showing off like anything else, wheelies, stoppies, burnouts etc, theres no point to them other than stuff like that is fun, as well as riding at warp speed down country roads. There's no point, but it's good fun. (if that's your idea of fun anyway)

If you want to get your knee down, you can do it on any bike, by leaning or by hanging off, everyone is different, personally I tend to lean the bike over and not hang off too much, I've seen pictures of people barely leaning over at all but hanging off like a nutcase... (see the attached picture Laughing)

Just keep practicing, get your body positioning right (this IMO makes the biggest difference as to whether you'll get your knee down, or crash trying) and more importantly, have fun.

A lot of people think knee down is the holy grail etc and try too hard, no one will think differently of you if you can't do it to be honest (although they might take this piss if you have shiney sliders on your leathers Laughing )

The only thing that I notice with people wanting to get their knee down is 1) they've not been riding that long and 2) they try to hard which will mean they are either going to crash trying or look a plank hanging off the bike and still not getting knee down. Don't make it your first target when starting biking etc else it'll more than likely end in tears!

Good luck though

Watch the 125 GP class and see how far they lean down, they have farely skinny tyres compared to those on full GP bikes or superbikes. I'm sure it would be possible to do it on your AR125. I had my RS50 almost knee down, never really pushed it far enough to go right down though.
Keep trying and you'll get it, just wait for this sh*t weather to clear up a bit. Smile

I just want to learn to show off to my mates to be honest. Some day I will likely get it down without actually meaning to instead of getting anxious marking spots on roundabouts.
