Hi everyone, stumbled across your forum this evening.

My name's John, i'm from the Bristol area and am currently riding a: (no flaming please, i get enough stick as it is - lol)

Chunlan Starway CL50-QT (W reg)

(a Chinese cheapo make sold in makro's for £1000 brand new)

its a twist 'n' go moped (for my sins). I have been riding bikes for a good few years, mainly offroad though.

This is my 1st bike on the road and the only reason for buying it was the price. It cost me just £190 with 8 months tax + mot, a lock, an alarm *(will explain below) and 2 cans of 2-stroke oil.

Reason for such a cheap moped

The boy I bought it from has the hand-eye coordination of a cabbage. He passed his CBT (god knows how) after failing his car driving test 12 times. He fell off once in the wet, riding very slowly, so there are a few scuffs and scrapes. The speedo doesn't work nor the electric start, but kicks 1st time without effort.

To give you a picture of what an oddball this guy was, after he fell off instead of buying bike mirrors, he screwed into the fairing replacement car wing mirrors (promptly replaced).

For some unknown reason (to be investigated yet) the battery does not get charged, so he decided to put on the front a Solar panel (also promptly removed). Think he's nuts? there's more...

The alarm on the bike was one of these £12.99 car alarms and was connected inside the glovebox held in with duct tape (also removed).

I am currently looking for a TZR 125 or NSR 125, my insurance is renewed in January and with all things crossed have 1 year's no claims (pity I couldn't use my car no claims) so would like to buy one that needs an overhaul / rebuild but has fine cosmetics so I can get it ready for 2005 Smile

I have been playing with engines (both car and bikes) for a few years, not a pro, but not a newbie either.... scared of no job too large.

So, there's the background info of me,

John

i will post up a few pics of it asap, I don't own a digicam but I know a man that does Smile

be warned to not need the toilet as you will laugh!

it's not one of those sporty looking ped's with small wide(ish) wheels, it has fairly large wheels for a ped and rather skinny....

holds the road in the dry lovely but poorly in the wet!!

had it down as far to scrape the centrestand once (not again - lol)

Now the kind of ped that cost £1000 new (and I hope he got a decent discount for the damage) I can forgive Smile.

Welcome, enjoy the stay, beware of all the others and all the usual blurb Smile.

Slavo,

Had both of these strokers way back - the NSR then the TZR. TZR had bags more go and handled better - so if you haven't decided which one to go for - I would recommend trying them both first if you can.
