"It has developed a small leak from the engine over the past few weeks."

Exhaust gas? Petrol? Oil? Blood?

Contact the seller and say you're not going to bid-to-buy but you are interested in a viewing if it doesn't sell, or (more likely) if it gets "bought" by a no-show fantasist. Don't be said fantasist, it's a dick move, not excused by the number of people that do it.

Turn up with cash, ride it away or walk away.

personally id steer clear, in my opinion theres too much to be done on it for that price with that milage, i used to have a gn 125 many years ago, was a 1994 (m) plate and that only had 20,000 miles on it and things had started to go, each to their own i suppose and if you think you could put it right

My '91 CG125 is on over 27k and it's still going strong. It has never let me down ever, which is a far cry from what I can say about my 'big bikes'..

It looks like an okay bike from the outside, although the rear tyre looks like it might need a change.. However, oil leaks can be plugged, and could indeed give you some insight on how your machine works..? But I wouldn't give 650 for it.

i agree that price is a bit high, yeah my gn125 had about 26k on it when i scrapped it, heard something about the new gn's being chinese or imports? not sure how true it is, although the speedo on mine was in mph and the new ones are in kmh. i ride a brand new ybr 125 at the minute but i think older bikes are still better and would have my gn over it anyday.

does anybody know if he bought it?...

Mmm. Sym are Taiwanese, quality is likely to be a little higher than mainland Chinese. If you can find any running 125 with (presumably) a full MOT and no obvious issues for under £500, feel free to share it.

As long as that Sym keeps running, it's not going to lose any more value. Just don't pour anything into it.

Exactly Wink and the guy who has been looking after it since it was bought, runs a class in motorcycle engineering, one or THREE in the country thus he certainly knows his beans from his lentils and says it's a STEAL!!! Wouldn't touch a Chinese bike but he said these are waaaaaaaaaay decent, can't find a Honda CG125 or Yamaha YBR 125 in my area for the right price... Sad
