Just wanted to vent some excitement...

My Kawasaki GT550 died on Thursday night, at about 2am, at the bottom of a hill on a dual carriageway. (At least it wasn't raining)

I only got it half way home before my arms gave up so I ditched it in a village off the main road, then just went back the following day after work for more pushing.

Had a quick look on Gumtree the next day and spotted a Honda VRX400, I hadn't even seen one before but loved the look of it so decided to arrange a viewing. It was a bit out of the way and someone was already planning on viewing it before me, so I borrowed a sleeping bag from work knowing full well I wouldn't make the last bus back in time (planned on just dossing in the countryside somewhere) and jumped on the train to Edinburgh - fingers crossed that the other guy wouldn't buy it before me. At least if that happened I could just get the next train back and not have to sleep in a field with no tent!

Got a text on the way to say the other guy had got another bike in the meantime, so the gamble paid off.

Anyway, had a look at the bike, rides great, sounds really nice, brakes felt like new, frame and finish in amazing condition, tyres and fork seals were shot to shit but these are getting sorted during the week inc. in the price. All that for WAY under a grand. The seller was also decent enough to give me a lift back to Edinburgh, so no little camping trip was required after all. Gave him a very small deposit and will pay the rest on Thursday.

I couldn't be fucking happier, the bikes suits me down to the ground and it'll do until I get my hands on a Sportster. Also, can anyone else see the huge potential this thing has as a street tracker or even cafe racer?!

Most post-1980 bikes do nothing for me, but I like the look of that Thumbs Up

(Possibly because it looks more 1975 than 1995 Wink )

Yep, I can see a cafe racer there.
In fact most of it's there, just needs clipons, rearsets a solo seat, tiny flyscreen and ditch the back mudguard. Cool

Very nice indeed Very Happy. I'm a big fan of the VRX, just a shame they're so rare in this country. Sounds like you got it for a good price too.

As for modifications, some slightly higher bars might suit. Apart from that, I'd be keeping it standard.

That is not my style of bike at all, but that looks awesome.

Such an odd one... very nice and great gamble. Laughing

Looks like it's mechanically similar to the VLX400 which I think was available in the UK? So most parts aren't a problem.

An owners manual might be another story but it looks pretty easy to work on. Getting hold of wear and tear stuff is easy enough, I had a quick look on wemoto before I went to view it. I wouldn't mind trying to make a new seat for it, it looks a bit of a fat ass right now!
