Basically I just got myself a GPS, and my guy who was going to fit it to my bike, via the battery etc, I'm awful at this stuff so I'm not 100 percent sure how he intended to do it, but anyway, he's gone on holiday for two weeks, and I've got a couple of long journeys to make this coming week.

Does anyone think they would be able to guide me how to do it myself? Or is this something I really need to have someone who knows what they're doing do it?

Thanks guys, as always!

What make satnav is it? normally its just fit the cradle to your handlebars, run the power lead to the battery and connect live to live and negative to negative. 20min job at most, if your really unsure see if theres a member close to you who will help for some beer or fags money. Thumbs Up

I've got the fitting for my bike fine, the only thing is splitting the power lead, mounting it to the battery etc, I'm pretty lost with that. I knew I should of took electronics rather than bloody woodwork, although I make a mean birdhouse Sad

If there is a member close to Bedfordshire, i.e within 50 or so miles, I'll happily ride out, and get them beverages of their choice/throw them a tenner for a tutorial on how to do it. I'd love to learn these things myself so doing it myself under guidance would be ideal.

OK? how do you plug your sat-nav into the car? by the cigerette lighter yes?

Then you go to Maplins and get a female part (socket) of the cigerette lighter (they do one ready made in a pack), then one wire to the + side of the battery and the other wire to the - side of the battery.

Job done Thumbs Up

Then I just secure that female part of the cigarette socket somewhere on the bike, and plug in as normal? What about when I'm not using it, does it drain the battery if left in, or wired on etc?

Also how do I secure the wires to the battery positive and negatives? Sorry about these incredibly ignorant questions guys.

Head into a maplins and they should have all you need. To connect the wire to the battery you need some of the electrical connectors that you crimp on.

A set like this will help with bike electrics

https://www.maplin.co.uk/crimp-connector-sets-1064

Or these are quite good, they slot in an existing fuse socket and take power off that..

And one of these kinda things to plug it into

I've got one of these

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350492171319?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619#ht_848wt_905

paid like £6 for mine though, works in all weathers, has never blown my fuses yet and took me 5 mins to fit. was spot on and powers the satnav/phone charger/smokes lighter fine

On the top of your battery will be two little nuts & bolts that hold on the wiring for the bike- use those

As long as the female section does`nt get wet and short out (drain your battery) you wont lose any juice if you unplug the sat-nav

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=3117784&highlight=#3117784

This will give you some idea?

It is honestly a VERY easy job. Just get on with it, if I can do it, anyone (and I really do mean this) can do it.

If you need a hand, it looks like you live pretty near to me (I'm in leighton buzzard).

Feel free to drop me a PM and you can come over some time soon. I have nothing much planned for tomorrow anyway. Will be happy to give you a hand fitting it. Have tools and terminators etc.
