...and unfortunately not by the missus/strap-on assembly either. Sad

Enjoy the footage (this is exactly the reason I record my commutes).

Only damage was to the number plate which is severely cracked and bent. I've checked the rest of the back end and everything is miraculously fine. The guy who hit me was in a works van, was apologetic and more concerned about me. The front grille and number plate on his van had come off completely. I didn't say whether or not I'd involve insurance at the time, but told him I'd have to check the bike properly and let him know. I called him later and after more apologising, he PayPal'd me the money for a new plate. He was still sounding quite shaken over the phone, more so than me actually!

Anyway, quite uneventful but I thought I'd share, and it's nice when people can be honest and straightforward when this sort of crap happens. Meh.

Am keeping the footage as backup in case there's any funny business later on - I showed him my camera and told him it caught the whole thing at the time so not expecting any comebacks. Gonna report it to my insurers today purely for information, not a claim.

That's a bit rough man.

Least he didn't knock you off and the bike hits the deck then all sorts of damage and scratches.

Good job on the recording, kinda makes it all cut and dry! Thumbs Up

You're pretty lucky he didn't go all out and push you onto roundabout completely... now that would be interesting vid!
Gotta agree with Marmalade, the insurance companies are dreaming about calls like this. I wouldn't bother with it personally.

Camera Idea Idea Great Idea

Knocked off last year, guy indicates left to to go up a filter lane so I start to go past, he then decides at the last second he wants a MacDonalds the other side of the road and takes me with him .

4 witnesses all corroborate my account, he admits full responsibility for the accident in front of said witnesses.

A couple of witnesses said I should call the police as they thought he was under the influence of something, but I did not bother as it seemed cut and dry.

10 months later his insurance company is still denying any blame.

Go figure.

Where do I get a helmet cam Thumbs Up

Be very careful as they will probably hold it against you.
My father did that when someone ran into him.
When I 'phoned to confirm he wouldn't be claiming they'd had it down as he'd admitted responsibility all because he'd 'phoned them Evil or Very Mad

I had to explain I'd be writing to the insurance ombudsman before they 'promised' to correct their records.

...that said if you don't report it and they hear from the other guy's/company's insurance then they'll screw you anyhow. So it could be a loose/loose for you!

Just some thoughts. Hope it's sorted and forgotten about ok Thumbs Up

Do you generally ride in the middle of the lane? That is where all the spills are and where you get rear ended. You would be much safer riding as close to the edge of the lane as possible, on the right so you are in front of the cager, so if he sees you too late he can still avoid and rear end the cage in front.

To be the most viasble, surely.

If you're on the edge of the lane you're most unlikely to not be seen or get pushed past!

Never heard about commanding your lane....

Sit too far over and some cage will pull into the space and leave you hung out to dry on the roundabout.

Roundabouts are dangerous enough, without putting yourself in even more danger. Rolling Eyes

This happened to me last year. Bloke in a BMW X5 drove into the back of my CG whilst I was queued at a roundabout, knocked me straight into the traffic, then reversed and sped off.

Well done on the footage Neil, and glad to hear it has come to an end quickly and relatively painlessly.

Cheers,
Steve.

Yes...at a roundabout.
On the general road, slightly closer to the centre line, but not enough that a car and think they will fit between me and the pavement.

Thats generally what most people do here.

same. I avoid the centre of the lane and drive close to the centre line. The cage cant fit in the rest of the lane unless he swerves into the other lane or shoulder. Also they cant rear end me unless blind as they still have place to swerve. Im also close enuf to avoid by lane splitting if I see the cage not stopping. When cages are standing like that I lane split and enter the roundabout first. I dont queue for anything.

People that want to queue in lanes may as well ride cages.

Roundabouts is one place I will never filter too the front (unless its total grid lock). Drivers have more than enough to concentrate on, without you making life harder for them, by coming up their sides just as they start looking to set off.

Yes you may be able to get away faster, but one day you will end up into the side of someone pulling away from the other entries, as they have missed you amounst the other clutter or simply not seen you are you arrived after they looked.
Or you will end up squashed between 2 cars as they both decide to race you...

Its not a case of "Might as well drive a cage". Its a case of making sure you are safe and not causing other road users problems.

You piss a car driver off enough and he might just take the next biker out....
