Hello all, i recently bought my gilera dna last week tuesday but only passed my cbt sunday so it was the first day i was riding it, i replaced my battery cus it was flat an after was no problems, i had rode it all day from about 4 pm and then at about 9 pm i was taking a corner and i heard a loud bang an then the engine cut out. I tried to restart and it failed. HOWEVER When i put it on the stand the engine turns on and everything revs/works properly, then as soon as i take it off the stand the engine cuts out immediately an wont turn on while its off the stand, so basically the engine only turns on while its on the stand. i was wondering if any of you could help me with this issue?...would be appreciated if you could reply or either call me on 07966309459 . either one would be appreciated, thank you people.

I cannot be held to this, but it could be like the safety mechanism Honda's and other bikes have; If the side stand is down then when put into gear it cuts out.

Where your moped doesn't have gears, it could still be in place, i don't know how, but it could. Just look for a pressure piece/button around the bottom of the bike (ped) where the stand goes up.

Sorry mate I don't know anything about automatics liek yours but it does sound like the safety mechanism that doesnt let you pull off with the stand down has gone a bit wrong.

Try posting in "The Workshop" part of the forum Thumbs Up

I don't recommend posting your personal mobile number on a google indexed forum

You'll be spammed to death in no time.

As far as I know the side stand is just a kill switch, look at it and see the button it pokes when the stands down, how that would be reversed I have no idea Shocked

thank you for replies, but im pretty sure it cant be the safety button because the bike attempts to start when off the stand, surely if it was a safety mechanism it wouldnt even attempt to start? mine does but fails, sorry forgot to tell you all that.

Have you tried starting it with the bike upright, and the stand still down?
I can't see how the stand is making a difference, maybe the possition is.
Does the ped have fuel?

I mean, keep the stand down, but the bike upright. The idea is to try and eliminate different areas.

If the bike is starting while on the side stand, but not starting off the stand, try on the stand, but the bike upright. There may be an airlock somewhere and it's not the stand, but the position of the bike.

Also, try push the bike forward a bit, see if the rear wheel turns, then try again. It might be stuck in gear?

A dodgy Gilera is hardly "biking news", it seems that about half of the Workshop posts are about them.

If it dies immediately while off the stand then I'd definitely suspect a deliberate kill switch.

How handy are you with a multimeter? £4 delivered, takes all the guesswork out of it.

ive managed to basically get it running while its off the standing but only when there is no pressure on it, so it wont start with me sitting on it which is pressuring it, i just took it down the road but when it gets to about 30 mph i start to hear popping noises and it doesnt go any faster, also cuts out a low speed. sigh

Check any electrical connections.
I had similar issues with my old Hyosung and it turned out to be the wires coming from the ignition..one had split slightly and occasionally would lose it's connection when the handlebars were at a certain angle. Replaced the wire and all was good.
May not be that at all, but certainly worth checking!

Hi there, dont know if you managed to sort it out yet, but I had a dna125 and it also developed a problem where it would cut out, but mainly when accelerating or braking hard.

it also started fine on the stand and then when taken off or pressure applied to the seat it wouldnt tick over properly. it turned out to be a hairline split in the HT (high tension) lead, which was opening when stretched/ bent by the movement of the engine.

if it isnt this specific part, it may be something similar, due to the way the engine is basically the swingarm on scooters, and tends to move a hell of a lot! also had simillar problems with my speedfight.

hope this helps if you havnt already sorted it.
