Following reading this week's advice on how to avoid a speeding prosecution in MCN. Which read:

That by having a group of friends with whom you regularly swap bikes prosecution can be avoided. When a speeding ticket comes through you explain that it could any one of the six or so friends and it's unidentifiable who it is. You then send off the details of all the friends, the police are powerless to prosecute.

I was wondering
~ how many already do this?
~ how many would be willing to do this?
~ how many have TPO on any bike as part of their insurance?

Many insurance companies give any bike cover free for people over 25, sometimes for those over 21.

I'm insured to ride anything as long as someone else has insured it too. Very Happy

And I wear ambiguous black leathers and black helmet, all the better for denying the person in the photograph is me.Thumbs Up

I managed to get TPO on any bike at 17 when I insured my bandit, not sure how to be honest and I'm 99% sure it was a mistake, never rode the bandit and cancelled the policy after 3 days so doesn't matter to me Laughing

Hi

Quite a few policies offer cover for bikes you don't own, and not having the option of that cover is why I moved from Bennetts insurance. Failing that you might well find that some car policies offer it as well (some specify other cars, some specify other vehicles).

All the best

Keith

The law will soon state that any prosecution, unless you can prove it wasn't you, will be on the owner of the vehicle, regardless of who you try to blame.
Also you cal all be donw for peverting the course of justice, which could get very nasty.

I'd say it was a pretty essential requirement when you're shopping for insurance. Meets are so much more fun when you're blagging goes on different bikes. Eh Rob. Cool

Afaik it's currently the owner of the bikes responsibility to be able to identify who was riding the bike at any given time.

When I got a NIP last year I wrote back to them saying a friend and myself had been riding the bike and could they send me the photographic evidence. They promptly refused saying it was not sufficient to Identify the rider. I wrote back a couple of times but got no joy. I then wrote to my MP, but by this time I was at the point where I needed to pay the fine or go to court, so I paid the fine.

Two weeks later my MP sent me the photographic evidence, which turned out to be a pretty clear picture that was fairly obviously me.

This will not work.

Apparently since a few months ago the rules changed regarding who gets the fine.

Whoever is the registered owner on the V5 will get the fine. If you don't send the V5 off when you sell it that's your fault, you'll get the fine, unless you persuade the person you sold the bike to to pay up.

But would the person with the V5 still get the points, and is there a legal requirement for the V5 to be held by a licence owner?

Buy bike at auction, register in the name of "T Blair, 11 Downing Street", ride through a load of cameras at speed then abandon the bike.

All the best

You actually had a full defence then. If you genuinely did not know who was riding at the time then they must find you not guilty.

All the best
