I was riding home last night when I took a stone (more of a boulder Laughing ) to my right eye at approx 50mph.

It hurt like a bastid. It was all bloodshot but has cleared up a bit now, but it's not open all the way. It aches.

I'm fairly sure my eye was closed when it took the impact, there is nothing floating about in there.

So people of BCF, aside from A&E (I have a bit of a thing about Hospitals, and I can't go until 6pm...) is there anything you'd suggest?

Update.

Been to the Eye Hospital three times now, had six bits of 'something' embedded in my eye, right in the line of vision.

Had to have them dug out with a needle, over two seperate days, one of which they wanted to put me under general Shocked

Hurts like a bitch, it's still dilated and I'm on 2 types of drops and one ointment.

Antibitiotics for another 7 days now, hopefully it's all clear by Friday when I leave to go touring europe on my bike!

Oh yeah, and the scarring may cause vision problems. Think I might learn to close my visor!

I hate the visor so I wear JSP "stealth" safety glasses on the bike. I have yellow ones for overcast days, clear ones and tinted ones.

They are a good close fit and so cheap (£2.50) as to be pretty much disposable.

Must admit that when I'm riding round town I tend to have my sun visor down and the normal visor up.

Got a fly in my eye while doing about 10mph once, nearly dropped bike/hit car/mullered kittens while trying to pull over to get the fucker out! Thumbs Down

I use those too. Luckily for me they are free-issue from work though I can only get clear or dark.

I won't ride without under safety glasses. Only use the visor at over 80 or so.

I have had a few minor accidents involving eye injuries as a child. I have scar tissue on my left eyeball, from an accident at the age of around 14. It is permanent, and I will have to live with it for the rest of my life. Please take care of your eyes. Most people take it for granted that things like this won't happen, or won't happen to them. Think about how often bugs or stones hit your visor. If your visor is up, that could easily be your eye.

Nearly 10 years on I still often think about my injury, and how it could easily have been avoided. And how much I'd love to beat the shit out of the moron that caused the injury, especially after finding out he laughed about it behind my back. I am fortunate that my scarring is on the white of my eye, and only just touching the edge of my cornea. I've lost a bit of clarity of my peripheral vision on that side, but nothing that hinders me.

Black Eye

Ditto to this now, I have scarring, seem to be able to see okay, although it is in the field of vision.

I have scarring on my left eye from when I was about 9, I had just sharpened a pencil and the tip of the lead snapped off and flicked up in my eye,

They had to use a needle/tweesers to pull it out, but I have a line on my eye that I can see when I look at plain backgrounds.

Look after your eyes kids, you don't get another pair! Thumbs Up
