I asked for a quote from them and they never mentioned a set-up charge.

Best thing to do is let Danny do it all for you. He's bound to find you the cheapest quote.

A setup charge? In all the quotes I got (even Norwich Union, who suffice to say did not quote me happy at being the most expensive by a clear £400 from their nearest competitor!!!) not one said or charged me a setup fee! What's that all about?

In fact come to think about it, I never got that on my car, or commercially insured van either Exclamation

Are you sure thats not just a deposit? Or maybe the interest on monthly payments?

nope, the guy on the phone said 'you pay an 80 pound initial deposit, then 20 days later 20 pounds, and 20 pounds every month on from then'

bit steep seeing as i was quoted 280 quid a year..

Thats it then - just a deposit.

Thats quite normal, and dont forget that if you pay monthly you have to pay interest on top of the actaul premium.

Ahh yes, the deposit - that's a different matter. Mind you, £80 up front does seem a little big, but then, bear in mind it has brought your monthly payment down. And by the looks of it you're only paying an extra £20 for the montly payment, so that's not too bad.
