Drop a match in the tank and see how loud the bang is?

I take no responsibility for any damage/injuries caused

Reset odometer when you refuel. Run the tank to empty, repeat. You'll then know roughly how much fuel you have just by looking at the odometer.

You mean the trip.

The odometer keeps a record of the bike's mileage from manufacture. Thumbs Up

Guess how much you have left, see if your right at next fuel up, allow one litre off for safety margin.

Ie 11 litres cost so and so for full tank, how much did it cost to fill.

Generally for me, when I think it.s on about a litre left, I know its time.

i suppose if you have a reserve as most do, then run it untill you have to switch over and then fill up again, or keep a jerry in the box and run dry and take the reading off the oddo:)(varys with mpg though i guess.

but yeah a gauge would be great but i suppose you cannot have it all:)

its amazing how many bikers come through here and end up caught short between fill ups but im in the western highlands near thurso, well 40+miles from anyway!

and fuel aint cheap here!!! Sad stunning views though and the roads are bloomin great.

It's actually the " Trip Odometer", as in, an odometer for the current journey, or trip.

Ye Olde Fuel gauge:-

With the bike off it's stand, the engine off and you sitting on it, open the cap, preferably without a fag in yer gob, using your legs shake the bike from side to side, (the heavier the tank, the less "shaking" is required), while listening to the "sloshing" noise coming from the fuel inside the tank. While there, do a visual check, looking for the fuel splashing up the inside of the tank. Close cap.

Or this - ie use a dose of common sense ffs !!! Mr. Green

1) Open filler cap.

2) Insert a metal rod.

3) Extract & check how much of it's wet. Rolling Eyes

How many people carry a metal rod with them on their bike especially when you can just look in to the tank?

Just do as others have said, see how many miles you can do between fill ups then you'll be able to see how long you have left. Does the bike have a fuel light? If so just wait until that comes on then fill up.

I don't really see too much need for a fuel gauge, if you're unsure how much petrol you've got left and you're planning on doing a long trip, just fill up before you set off.
