I'm looking at doing some track days next year, in particular at Cadwell. I heard somewhere that they require a 1 piece suit now, and a zip together 2 piece wont do?

Also what are the requirements in terms of gear? I've looked on their site but can't find anything.

Unless the trackday company say otherwise (you haven't said who you are using) a 2 piece is fine. MSV make that quite clear on their website, and as they own Cadwell Park I'd say you can take that as gospel.

I used shitty 2 piece leathers at Cadwell up until September. Be interesting to know if they have changed their rules but I should probably get the proper gear now anyway. Frankly I wouldn't trust mine at all in a high speed crash.

I used a two piece (full way round zip) in July at Cadwell and they were fine with it - they did check though.

I bloody well hope not, bought a set of 2 piece leathers just so I can do trackdays at some point!

As an aside though, what other gear do they care about? Does the helmet have to be track certified or something or will any road worthy helmet be ok?

And gloves and boots? I only have some army surplus boots, will I be allowed with those out? Do gloves have to be those silly racing types with all that kevlar and stuff or will some leather biking gloves do?

Thanks!

Helmet HAS to have the gold ACU mark. They don't check closely though and I believe the sticker can be purchased seperately.... Not sure how wise that would be though.
Boots and gloves they just stipulate leather. I had 'silly' gloves though Wink but very basic boots - though they were actual bike boots.

No limits say:

"Track Day Clothing

Ensure that you have the proper motorcyle gear for track riding:

A full leather race suit or a fully zipped together 2-piece. The zip must encircle your torso, and there should be no gap bewteen the jacket and the trousers when the zip is done up.
An ACU (gold sticker) safety helmet which must be properly fastened
Motorcycle gloves
Motorcycle boots

Please do not wear other types of gloves or boots, as you will not have adequate protection should you come off your bike.

Suppose it depends on their interpretation of what a motorcycle boot is.

Personally I wouldn't go near a trackday with a pair of surplus boots, just not enough protection for me.

Nearly every helmet will have the gold ACU sticker apart from the really cheap polycarbonate ones so don't worry about that. As for boots; the first few trackdays I did in those shitty £30 Lidl touring boots. They would be useless in a crash but they passed without comment on at least 4 trackdays. They were however "motorcycle" boots...I think you might struggle with army boots assuming someone notices them.

You can get cheap race style boots online though if you look for sales. I got mine for about £40 and they're alright(ish).

If you have a flip lid though, it almost certainly won't.

No WWII era German army headgear then? Awww.... Crying or Very sad
To be honest I only mention it as when I last bought a new lid I didn't even think about it. Fortunately my old lid just needed a new visor.
That said it appears they do exist.
