My washing machine is making an awful grindy noise, it must be a bearing on the drum (or maybe the pump?) but we got it with our house and we've been there 6 years, so not too bad and I think worth replacing for a new one.

So anyone on here have any links for ex display machines going cheap? Or damaged cosmetic but otherwise good? That kind of thing. I found a few Googling but never sure whether to trust them.

Otherwise I'll just do Amazon or something, wait for a reduced deal to come up. Suggestions of the best makes to go for and those to avoid?

Looking at around £200-£300, could probably go a bit more for a really good recommendation.

Lastly, is this in the wrong section? It is causing me mental anguish so 'Dear Auntie BCF..." seemed appropriate, + aunties always know about washing machines.

tl;dr: I need a new washing machine. What and where from?

You can replace the bearings. We did it and the machine is still going nearly 4 years later. Cheap £30 fix and a whole new 'photographing every move' adventure Smile
Had to take EVERYTHING ELSE OUT before the bearings could be exposed though.

You could always try

Argos have loads under £300

Don't fancy attempting a repair, it's just another job to add to the list then and I know it'll never get done. Plus I gotta buy the wife a present at some point in our marriage - I'll tell her this is her Christmas gift Very Happy.

Did that with a freezer, still going 3 years later but oh my god what a hassle!! Took about 2 months to find one that wasn't gone within 10 seconds, then the woman getting rid didn't have anyone who could help me lift it, then it wouldn't fit in the car etc etc.
Think I'd rather spend some cash, my time's worth more to me than that!

Mrs Angryjonny bought me a Black and Decker workmate for my birthday one year, which I believe is the equivalent sentiment.

I bet she never even offered you tea or a blowjob either, right? Mad

You know what hacks me off about Freecycle? The number of folk who fire in with their well practiced sob story about how dreadfully poor they are - always "Sent from my iPhone" - or it's going to their man's second common law wife who's getting out of Barlinnie this weekend and moving her six kids into her new flat and the Filth totally crushed her car which was right bogus by the way cuz there was a note in the window saying that the tax was in the post and everything so you'll need to drop it off, they only live 30 miles away... Doh!

I still offer stuff, but always with "Will go to the first person that actually shows up and collects it. No holding it, no delivery."

I know! I mean if you're giving away free stuff to people you should at least offer to deliver it as well.

Ebay, 30 quid, secondhand washing machine. Find one from someone that's doing up their kitchen and get a new one to match the colours.

I've done this for the last couple of machines. Cheapness.
