Hiya

Silly question possibly but had a call at work today saying that my car had been broken into (i'd ridden to work) at home, they'd smashed the window, taken cd/mp3 player and some other stuff, and knackered my locks too apparently, if i claim this on insurance do I lose my no claims bonus thing seeing as it's a theft and not a crash ? I have fully comprehensive

Thanks, (pity he didn't try and burgle the house, he'd be nice as dog food, whoever it was) Smile

More than likely you will lose your no claims bonus yes.

You have to look at it from the point of view how much is a new radio and window and lock going to cost over the amount that you will have to pay in excess and loss of no claims bonus.

Shitter all the same mate. Sad

Sorry to hear mate Sad

Mad

I'd love to catch someone doing it, because it will be the last car / bike they break into / steal...

exactly the same happened to me with my 1st car, they took £400 worth of stereo equipment.

Contacted my insurance company and they said it would count as a claim, they told me how much it would go up by too and as a 17 year old it was already £900 on a 1 litre Sad

It would have gone up for more than the price of the equipment.

The police actually caught the guy that did it, he was a heroin addict who had been caught before and also admitted to 25 other car breakins. He had a whole 30 days in prison and had sold my stuff for £50 to score his next hit.

The police said that I couldn't be compensated, as the stuff had been sold and he "forgot" where he sold it.

hope the repair costs aren't too high mate.

John

People that steal like that infuriate me.

Between the bicycles I have had stolen, and the bike I could have got my license and an R1 already...

Yup, you'll almost certainly see your premiums affected.

As an insurance rep once said to me:

"It's a 'no claim' bonus, not a 'no blame' bonus"

Also something to bear in mind is the fact that you're probably required by your policy to report any accident or theft from your vehicle to the insurers, irrespective of whether you make a claim or not. This would probably increase your premiums even if you don't claim.

Rgds,

Chuck.
