Hi,
I'm pretty new here. I'm turning 17 soon and I want to get a bike, I’ve looked at many and made the decision that i want a KTM 125 LC2. The reason for this is because it uses the same engine as the Yamaha DT so it should be a lot more reliable and extremely easy to get parts. I've done a fair bit of research on the bike and have unfortunately realised that they are extremely rare.

Anyway I’m after some advice, does anyone know when KTM started and stopped putting DT engine's in EXC's. From what I’ve found they used them in 1999 and 2000 but i can't find anything else. Also if anyone has any advice about the bikes and just general information I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks

P.S Here's the only one i could find Sad

Why not just get a DTR instead of waiting ages to get a hold of a rare bike? Wasn't aware KTM ever partnered up with Yamaha, that is a bit odd, you sure you just didn't come across a bike with a transplanted engine?

I'm not really interested in getting a DT as i don't really like them, i think there overpriced and don't look very nice. They didn't exactly partner up with Yamaha but they did use their engines for a while in some bikes.

Just get any old 125 and pass your tests before the law changes in January then you can ride anything (almost) up to 33bhp.

Once the law changes you'll be stuck on a 125 for years.

Plus, getting a rare bike, as much as it's "what you want right now" will just mean its harder to find parts/get help if anything goes wrong with it. Get something simple and pass a test and you can get and ride every bike ever Twisted Evil

Well there's parts out there just not lots of them. Also getting help with it wont be a problem. Well i have already thought about doing my full test when i'm 17, but unfortunately i believe they are changing the law so that you can only do your bike test when 18 and no longer 17, I think this takes place in February which is before my birthday. Therefore i wont be able to take my test?

Tests are changing in january so you need to be 21 or some nonsence to ride anything bigger than a 125.

And dont worry too much about getting engine parts and such. You can get replacements for nearly every bike and engines dont just blow up every week.

You have a funny definition of "soon". OK, you'll be under the 3rd Directive rules, so you're screwed. It's all change no later than January 19th 2013, and you're going to be stuck on a 125 until you're 19 (not 18).

Also, this is a kiddie fantasy post. Either get a ped, or come back when you're 17 "soon", not 8 months away.
