Hi all,

I've owned a 2005 Kawasaki ZX6R for the last 10 months and it has been brilliant. I'm currently living out in Exmoor and the bike is so much fun as it has plenty of go and handles well. I've decided that I now want to get something a bit more comfortable as I find the bike quite cramped and uncomfortable after 2+ hour rides.

I think now is a good time to sell the bike and am looking for some advice on what to get next. I'm 6ft 2" and more importantly I want something that can hold a pillion without constant compaining from them! Ideally I'd like something that still is quick and doesn't look completely like a full on tourer. Budget is £2-3k, possibly a bit more depending on the sale of the ZX

There are loads of options literally 20 or 30 or more bikes that would fit the bill, so I'd say have a look round and see what takes your fancy. Then come back and ask for people opinions on those specific bike.

https://cycle-ergo.com/

Draw up a shortlist then have a play on there.

Depends how much of a fun/comfort trade you want to make.

ZX6R is 100bhp bike, but its 'punch' is in the fact its a flyweight for the power it has.
For 'comfort' and pillionability, you are probably going to be looking towards street-bikes / muscle-bikes, if you dont want a full on tourer... BUT, they get comfort from mass.... and many dont pack much power to move it... most will have much 'softer' tuned motors with a lot more tractability and low and mid-range 'grunt', which gives them a very diferent nature, possibly more 'available' power available 'more' of the time, and used right, you can 'hustle' them pretty briskly on that 'useable' power, but they dont have the top end, and they dont have the flickability; point to point they can be as fast, but takes more effort and 'finesse' to get the shear speed from them, and its not the 'on demand' auxilleration.
Half-way, you have less focused sports bikes, like the CBR600F, the Thunder-Ace and possibly trumpet speed 4. But halfway houses.... its neither nor, and you wont have the full on razor edge of the ZX6, or the completely different nature of a muscle.

Personally, I think that an older Bandit 12, may be worth a test ride, to see if you 'like' or can live with that different nature....

Then you are going to have to make some choices to find the best compromise that works for you.... ZX6 is a very focused machine, and what you want to 'keep' of its nature is probably what you cant have in bikes that do what you say you want.

You could just get one of the older ZX6Rs or CBRs from before they became quite so focussed. That way you keep most of the performance and handling but with a bit more comfort and midrange. My G2 is not exactly uncomfortable but then I'm not a great lanky bastard like you Laughing

I'm 6ft and pretty chunky. I do alright on a 2001 CBR600f, find it comfy etc. My bro had a B1h and that felt tiny and cramped in comparison.

My next bike would be more upright and a bit lazier though, fazer 1000, CB1000R, Z1000 for instance.
