Hi guys, so, I'm about to book my Mod 1 and hoping my Mod 2 won't be far behind, I'll be doing my test on my YBR Custom 125 (as a new inexperienced rider that was recommended by both instructor and boyfriend).

At 28 years old that then means when I pass I can get a bigger bike, but restrict it, so now that I'm feeling much more confident, my attention is turning to a bigger bike.

I wonder if you guys would be able to give me some recommendations based on some facts?

    • I like the riding position of the YBR custom much more than the ordinary YBR, so I'm guessing I want a more sat up bike than proper full on sports bike.

    • The only money I will have to play with will be from the sale of my YBR custom - a fairly low mileage, good condition with a few scuffs 2012 model in black.

    • I don't want anything too big - so I'm thinking around a 600, and I will need to be able to get a restrictor kit for it

    • I want a reliable make that will be easy to find parts for

I'm sure there are LOADS of other factors I haven't even thought of yet so please feel free to ask questions to narrow this all down a bit. Any help much appreciated, there's a lot out there to choose from, I'm kinda hoping this might help be narrow it down a bit but I guess it could just confuse me more - we shall see!

How much you're looking to get for YBR?
What will you be using the bike for? (commuting, hooliganing, running over infants... you know).

On a less serious note, there will be plenty of bikes to chose from, Honda are known for reliability but really, any jap bike less than 10 years old should be fine. You'll be able to fit restrictors to any bike. Maybe a bandit, hornet or maybe a divvy.

Lots of choices. Are you short? That might make a difference.

HTH Thumbs Up

Fireblade

GSXR1100

The usual.

Have a look at the Yamaha Virago? Perhaps the Hyosung GV650.

Too cruiser styled?

Triumph Speed Four, Honda Hornet/CBF600 or SV650...?

Lots of bikes to choose from, go to ebay, put in a top price of say £1500 and list all motorbikes from closest distance and see whats kicking around Thumbs Up

I paid £1500 for the YBR so I'm hoping to get around £1300 back for it, does that seem reasonable?!

I will be using the bike for commuting pretty much every day, and then having a bit more fun on more interesting roads on weekends Wink

I'm not short - 5'8", so I'm guessing height of bike shouldn't be a problem for me.

Thanks for the input so far guys, will be doing some in depth google image searches when I get home from work tonight, and it's my turn to cook tea as well..... I'm thinking something quick so I can get back to shopping haha

A nearly-new 2012 Custom? Give it a polish, sell it as one female rider (seat still warm) and ask £1800. £1500 was a steal, look to make at least that back on it.

Gaping plethora of choices. Since you're going to be restricted, you might want to look at the 500s. You'll get the same performance as any other 25kW machine, and only need to shove 2 washers in the inlets (get washers to fit, drill 20mm holes, call it a day).

GS500, ER-5, GPZ 500, CB500, all cheap to buy, cheap to run, much cheapness, many bargains.

I'd suggest staying away from cruisers, at least as a sole bike. They're lardy, don't corner well, and command a premium price. You can get better bikes for the money.
