Yh my derbi gpr 125cc 4t (4800 miles) is being delivered tomorrow , just wondering what should i do first?

Its a used bike and is a tad bit grubby here and there so I'm planning to give it a nice clean once its in my possession.
Since the bike hasen't got a service book/log book, I'm thinking about getting it fully serviced, :S is it a waste of money or not? everything seem's to work, I'm just wondering if a service could find any small problems which could get worse over time.

OH yh last thing, as i will be leaving the bike out expossed to the elements what kind of chemicals can i use to prevent rust/corrosion etc.

get yourself a manual and go through it. learn to do the services yourself there all straight forward . check everything twice (everything ) first things to check would be the most obvious ones .brakes ,oil, wheels ,tyres hows the engine running and so on . check for anything loose . just literally check everything

Personally I would:
- New oil and oil filter
- Air filter
- Take calipers off, clean them and bleed them (new brake fluid)
- Check tyre pressures <-- Bloody obvious really
- Check chain slack

Cant think of much else, but basically just give the bike a bloody good look over with few mugs of coffee and you should come across any potential problems while doing the above.

Obviously dont razz off on it as soon as you get it.

I've always done a service on any vehicle I've bought, just for my own peace of mind. At least then you know it's had a service and you get to learn more about the vehicle (This is presuming you do the service yourself). I usually find any niggles at this point too as I give it a good clean and a decent 'once over'. It all depends how mechanically minded you are.

It's usually cheaper than taking it to a garage too... Thumbs Up

Check for any frayed cables.
Generally check over everything for looseness & excessive wear.

Think about a Bike Tent and either ACF 50 or some Scottoiler FS 365.

If i was to erect such a thing in my area the following things will happen...

1) someone will urinate on it
2) homeless will think its there home
3) kids will destroy it
4) it will get nicked
5) a bunch of thieves would wonder what kind of bike i own if im willing to buy a tent for my bike :O. Then after they find out its a derbi gpr 125cc they would probably steal/smash it, out of frustration that its not a bigger bike.

just buy a cover that can be secured under the bike.

Also dont buy just any oil, most motorcycles use the engine oil as part of the gear box so good motorcycle oil is a must.

^ This is one school of thought.

I put whatever the cheapest 15-40 is and the bike runs just fine. I'd rather use cheaper oil and afford to change it every 3or 4K miles than use expensive oil and not have have money to change it that often.

But then, Im a poor student.

Ride it?

Seriously, just check the fluid levels are good, check the brakes work, give it a once over and make sure nothing looks likely to fall off then go for a ride. What is the point of stripping the bike to bits if it all works?

Shouldn't you be using 10w-40? Thinking
I guess 5 degrees isnt a massive difference, but long term....
