Im painting a couple of fairings up which il be applying a sticker kit to. Currently ive fully prepped them both and made a start on painting one. Using cans so not expecting perfection but would like something which is passable in daylight!
Ive applied 3 coats of primer then lightly sanded with 800grit then moved onto the colour. Unfortunately the colour from the cans is cack compared to the primer. The primer went on a treat however the colour (which is gloss black btw) is pissthin and spraying very poorly. Ive managed to get a half decent covering on now with about 4 coats without any runs. Cover is pretty good but the finish is pretty dull and eggshelly.

Question is what now? I planned to apply a sticker kit and clear coat it on. What should my final prep be now for the solid black prior to fitting the sticker kit?
I was planning to give a light wet sanding with around 1000grit to try and get rid of the eggshell. Then apply another thin coat and do the same with that.
How should i be leaving the finish ready to fit the stickers and then laquer? Karma Thumbs Up

I go off this when I try to paint, the pictures are no longer up on the page (unfortunately) but the finish was immaculate, I recommend following this if you're looking for a good finish, even with a spray can.

I'm currently in the process of spraying a rear cowl for my Hornet, so pictures of your process/end results would be awesome!

thats a good link cheers. I decided to flat off the paint with 1200wet&dry and then polish it up with some t-cut colour magic. I think this may work well enough so the plan is now to flat off again with 1200 then apply some more coats of colour as there are a few tiny places on edges etc where the colour hasnt quite covered enough so il whack on a few more coats tomorrow and im then contemplating just flatting it off and polishing the hell out of it with some rubbing compound/t cut colour fast/autoglym super resin polish in that order. I think that may bring decent enough results.
It doesnt have to stand up to high scrutiny as its only a track bike so aslong as it looks shiny and uniform and the paint is nice and even i can live with a not quite perfectly smooth finish.
That leaves the decals though so im thinking is it possible to mask the decals and apply clear coat to those only, or maybe even just apply them uncoated.

I havent really got the 3 days solid required to get perfect results so perfect from 6feet away will do Laughing

A final rub down from the tarmac at Mallory should give it a used look.
