Just wondering if anyone's got experience of dealing with this company? They're second in price to MCE by about £30. Are they actually any good? Reasonable admin fees?

Any good or bad stories?

I assume they are still just the intermediary and the actual policy will be with someone like NIG or Equity Red Star. It's who the policy is with that you want to worry about.

Devitts used to be part of the RBS Insurance group who are now Direct Line Group - NIG is still part of DLG, but are a commercial only insurer now, ie don't have any private lines motor whatsoever, that got binned off about ~3 years ago due to long term unprofitability.

The policy is probably Equity Red Star or another Lloyds outfit like Canopious nowadays - however, I'm fairly sure they have a claims delegated arrangement with their own in house claims team, so the underwriter is more of a capacity arrangement than having any direct control.

All insurance companies are good......

Until you have to claim. Then you'll find out of they are good or hopeless.

I dont enter into an insurance company contract with the mindset "I wonder if they are any good" I tend to enter into it with the mindset "I hope I never need to use these guys!"

So far I havent needed to use them so every company I have used have been great. Expensive for nothing, but nothing is good when it comes to insurance companies.

I used Devitt for two years on my first CG. No problems. But then I never had to make a claim or anything.

Disagree, many brokers are worse than others well before claims come into the equation: Some are hopelessly bad with paperwork, or particularly onerous where it comes to the amount of documentation they want copies of, particularly unhelpful staff, etc.

Yeah, I know quite a bit about their history. Wink

Aren't Devitts something to do with RAC insurance? Cos whenever you do a quote on a Compare site they come up at an identical price.

I believe it was a management buyout as opposed to a trade sale to another company.

A double post an hour and a half apart. Laughing

Thanks for the responses. I know the insurance is actually with Groupama, whom I used to work for (albeit through a contract company), but that aside it appears there are no horror stories. If anyone has anything further to add I'm all ears. Smile
