Thumbs Down Well, balls. The one sensible, pro-bike voice in a position to do some good has just been "promoted" to the Kobayashi Maru of Ministerial briefs.

I know, politics, bleurgh, I'ma ride my bike. Bear in mind the coming shitstorm of dictats from Brussels that could mean either sod all or sod off to biking, largely depending on which idiot is in charge of gold plating them.

Let's see how the newest idiots at the DfT fare - I imagine the planned reversion to a single bike test will be quickly re-reverted. Well, I guess MAG, BMF and the assorted lobbyists will just have to find a new ear to bend.

Dammit - I was waiting to hear about this, here's an excerpt from the MAG email earlier today:

Quote:
The fate of the bike test review may hang in the balance as we await news of the government reshuffle and whether or not Mike Penning has held on to his job.
We know that there is a chance he'll be moved, and the DSA must be hoping so, as they have delayed the review process as much as possible up to now, and during the last Review Group meeting it came to light that they would be 'aiming' to secure Ministerial approval in September
to continue with the final phase of trials. This seemed odd given Mr Penning's desire to get the job done, so they are clearly expecting a new face, who, dare I say, might be easier to manipulate than Mike the bike? If Mike does go it would something of a coup for the motorcycle industry and a snub to the DSA if Steve Baker MP were to get the job!

There's nothing definite, it's just been dribs and drabs via the DfT site.

Last one I remember, the Sir Humphreys were moaning that doing the required brake and swerve on the road would involve too much bending by the examiners to move cones around. It's apparently being beyond their comprehension that examiners could (for example) just point at a handy manhole cover and say "Go round the block, get up to 30mph and swerve around that" then use their judgement, like they do for every other aspect of the tests. Doh!

It was clearly Mike Penning pushing it, and now that he's been ousted I expect it'll be quietly forgotten about, and they'll get back to fiddling around with cone layouts in the yards like good little OCD spackers. So don't delay doing your tests because of an ex Under Secretary's good intentions. Wink

thanks

Smile

the thing i dont like is the judgement idea, its one of them things that could either be good or bad

in regards to the judgment thing

do you reckon the speed traps for mod 1 are recorded onto the trap device? so if an examiner is nice he could just write you did a few mph extra or something or been a tight arse and could change it?
