Well. Quite chuffed with this.

This is my first 'big' bike; I'm an old Vespa man, have been rebuilding and tweaking 70s/80s 2 strokes for a few years - I even passed my A2 on a Vespa T5. But this morning was the first time I've changed gear with my foot, not my left hand.

You may have seen Zero's thread on his VRX, but in case you didn't - this is a grey import, a 400cc Roadster using the Honda Steed 400 engine. After spending half an hour doing laps in a car park in Farnborough I took it through the leafy lanes around Guildford and then up the A3 to my home in London. Once I got over the initial nervousness of not riding a Vespa (ie. 15cm from the ground on drum brakes, 10 inch wheels and a tuned 135cc engine) it was bloody good fun. It's a really forgiving engine, which is good because I currently suck at choosing and changing gear with my foot

Okay, the suspension, brakes and chassis is all quite basic and I think the front brake is underperforming. But it's great to ride and sounds lovely to boot. Just need to open up the exhaust a bit...

I like these a lot. How much did you pay, if you don't mind me asking? The only ones I've seen for sale seem very dear for what is a fairly old bike.

I paid just over a grand, which does seem a fair bit for a 1995 bike, but it's only got 16k miles on the clock and has been well kept, last 5 years of MOTs passed with no probs, it has a year's tax and MOT, new tyres, new oil filter etc. So I kind of felt it was worth the pennies to get something that's reliable and hopefully still got a lot of life in it!
