Well, had to happen I suppose.

On the way into work this morning, and someone decided to do a U-turn right in front of me. Tried to swerve round the back of her, but it happened so fast, and the road was wet so I had no chance really. Luckily was only doing 25-30 at the time.

Bike's a complete write off, and I seem to have an achy neck and right leg. Other than that I've come off pretty well.

That's crap but if I understand correctly, at least it should be a pretty cut and dry insurance case. The obligatory paint diagram would be beneficial!

Hope you get back on a bike soon...

I did mate, she admitted full liability to me, the police and the ambulance crew.

Thing that pissed me off was the Police taking an hour and 45 minutes to arrive. Apparently it was changeover. He turned up, made sure we'd got each other's details and fucked off, must of been there less that 5 minutes. I waited so long because I wanted her to admit it in front of him as well.

I bet it'll be worth it though. How much did you have the bike insured for? They usually let you buy it back for about 10% of the uncrashed value, so you'll most likely be able to sell off what is undamaged for parts.

She was just in front of where the Silver Astra is, I was heading in that direction, and she just pulled out, had no chance of doing anything really.

So she was parked and you were just riding past in the same direction that astra was pointing? If so, how does someone even mange that?

She was sat on the kerb roughly where that Astra is, as I came up towards her, she decided to swing a U turn, without looking, and of course I had nowhere to go it happened so fast.

Hope you recover quick Thumbs Up .

At least with liabiilty admitted there should be no claim problems.

And don't forget all that bike kit you were wearing when you claim, any scuffs, rips, helmet, etc are worth putting in a claim for damage.

Make sure that when the insurers make you an offer that it's acceptable to you. Check what prices secondhand models are going for, lay it on thick or they'll stiff you for whatever they think they can get away with.

Cheers people, Thumbs Up.

Been offered a hire bike (CB1000 apparently) that I've agreed to, but I'm sure I've read of people having nightmares and getting charged themselves, although I was pretty clear that if it was going to cost me a penny I didn't want it. I'm 99.9% certain she wont try and change her story or anything, and she has admitted liability but I dont fancy being stuck with any sort of bill. Wondering whether to just cancel the thing and wait for it to get sorted.

Her insurers should pick up the tab, once liability has been admitted there's very little insurers can do to refute it. That's why they hate you admitting liability and usually state in their policy that under no circumstances should you ever admit that you were at fault.

Cheers mate, I understand that her insurers should pick up the bill, but I'm sure I've read somewhere people getting lumbered with something, somewhere along the line. I wont pay a penny at any point for a hire bike (they tried to get me to pay a £50 deposit!) so I dont fancy some sort of small print clause catching me out at some stage and costing me money.

Thumbs Up

They want to fight it out so much. If I hit someone and it was my fault, I wouldn't be a cunt to the other person and say "oh well its his fault" because its a royal pain to go through insurance and I'd rather they were honest with me.

If it does concern you have a quick google on problems encountered by people using yours and hers insurers. If they are in the habit of dumping on claimants double check with your insurers and get them to email you the costs and terms involved with hire machine.
Usually the only thing you have to watch for is costs AFTER they've agreed settlement.

Paddy, they don't say blame the other party just 'don't admit anything'.
I feel exactly the same way as you and have always admitted when I've been to blame, it just means I know my insurers will cop the whole claim. (25k for the last one!!!)

Your lucky you didn't get hurt, I had virtually the exact same accident about 2 months ago and my collar bone ended up in about 25 pieces and having 4 weeks off work.

Bikes are replaceable, but you cant always recover, I'm going to have reduced movement for the rest of my life.

I'd rather admit though, knowing how shit claims are and how long they drag out if people contest (had a big claim last ~3 years)
