I was looking through the college prospectus a while ago and found it, it looks quite good but takes 4 years..Today I got a letter in the post inviting me for an interview, has anyone here done it, or is anyone doing it?

If so, what kind've jobs/pay would I be on at the end of the course?

My brother did one of those courses. It is roughly 2-4 years olng but worth it.

The pay once your qualified really depends on what type of electrical work your best at. e.g house re-wires, installing in factories etc.
Electrical tester's are on a pretty good pay and normal appliance jobs not so much, unless you have your own prices.

An approved electrician should be getting paid £11.05 per hour at the very least.

Is this something you are doing yourself? Normally you would get a job first and the company would send you on this course.

l,m currently an apperntice electrician but it was very hard to find a work place nowendays that would take on a apperntice due to companys wanting electrician but can,t be bothered to train one up over the 4 years because of the cost of it, and in the city and guilds course you get kicked out afther 1 year if you can,t find a job, the best industry to get into would be industryal installation which l,m currently in and the industry is crying out for electrician and engineers and are paying very well. also you can only get on the course if you have an electrical job or have GCSE`s over C grade in maths, sciences, english. or be form an ethic minority.

We pay our sparkies around £13 an hour I think, really can't remember to be honest.

The easiest/best way into it is via apprenticeship, we've got a few and one's just passed his AM2 so is now fully qualified and is still with us full time on increased money, so he's got a job instantly from being an apprentice.

Best bet is to try and get an appreticeship!

Obviously not!?

No idea to be honest I don't get involved but almost certain he's just passed his AM2 and is now a fully qualified sparkie.

Maybe it's just changed up here in Scotland then. It's called a FICA test now and it gives you a Vocational Qualification level 3 instead of the City & Guilds thing

I think that city and guilds was replaced by the NVQ a few years ago because on my plumbing certificates its got the city and guilds logo/heading but states that is a NVQ !

If i've made any sence there!
