So I was talking with a friend today at school about bikes. Her X has one and she was asking me about how to get her license and driving a bike,etc... Well in the process of helping her out. It reminded me of my dad when I was younger. My dad use to race bikes down at the track locally for a guy out in Winstonsalem,NC named Norman(when my mom first met him). Norman owned his own bike shop and after my dad retired he still took me and brother down to the track just about everyweekend for the bike runs and all. And then a few years(might have even been months) later my parents devorced. Now I haven't really talked to my dad since and all. I don't like talking about him and whenever I do it brings up old memories of you know the track and all. So I decided to get my bike license and possibly a bike before the summers out. It would be a weekend thing at first. Due to florida drivers and all. My mom is kinda against it ONLY because of florida drivers. But what I want is to get the license just for my self. It was always a goal of mine to do before highschool was out. So I figured it can't hurt. But what I wanna know is what you guys think bike owners and non-bike owners. What do you think, should do it ?, or is this just old feeling I should just blow off ? The more I think about it the more I want to but I just want another opion. I stopped by this local shop near me and talked to the guy there and realized this:

The Good:
I can afford it
Cheap way to go fast
good on gas
Girls dig'em
CHEAP
NEW(if I get a new one)
Makes me remember the good times

THE BAd:
Florida drivers
insurance(A must if it's new)
mom is for now AGAINST IT !
Parking
Chances of it getting stolen are REALLY high !

I don't know what to do......

why is parking on the bad side. The only thing bad about florida and bikes is the sand. It will eat away at the things. i think you got cheap in the wrong catagory as well;).

if you want one i would go for it. you will need insurance no matter what. If its new you will have to have full coverage unless you pay for it all at once. that gets expensive if youve never ridden before depending on the bike. none of us are going to be able to tell you what to do.

I have had the pleasure of riding in Florida, and i understand why you have to be wary of cage drivers, Florida had to be one of the worst states i rode through....i would never go back on the freeway there!

It's a bike forum. Do you think we're going to be impartial? Laughing

Do it. If it turns out not to be to your liking, sell it. Won't know if you don't try.

Yeah I know, but it doesn't hurt to have a second opinion. I decided to go with it ,becuase you only live once(with this thing might be even less....lol). My moms starting to give in a little better. As long as it's understood that I do this all on my own and it all comes out of my pocket. My friend Angel has a friend with a Ninja he's gonna try to have come over on saturday. So I can ride it around in the parking lot at my complex(which is really big by the way). So I can start to get a feel for what kinda of bike I want. My friend suggested one of the older Honda CBR's I forgot wich one but it's like the smaller one I wanna say 650 I think he said something about it being fuel injected and it had V-tec(I know VERY descriptive). So now I'm saving up some cash (about 225-235 at the florida traffic school) For the intire class and everything to take it is provided. But I'll keep you guys posted and I'lll keep hanging around the site to learn a little more about, well, ridin(man that sounds wrong)
Wink Laughing Cool
