i have a Yamaha DT 125 x, 56 model and it wont start.

At first I'd been on the bike riding around then when I stopped and had a tab, I got back on but realised it would not start.

I thought strange as I only used to have to touch the button once and it would fire.

I took the plug out and realised there was the smallest spark ever; I could barely see it. So I stripped the bike down where I was at and got a friend to fetch me my spare cdi unit coil and new plug. I swapped them over put it all back together still nothing. I rang for recovery.

In the meantime I thought bollocks I'll try bumping and it fired straight up. I was puzzled so I cut it off and tried it off the button it fired up no problem. It had me scratching my head as I do most of the work on my bike myself. The next day i went out fired up as normal and it done it again.

I went home but kept the revs up as I didn't want it to cut out. When I got home it cut out and now it doesn't fire off the button nor does it bump.

Has anyone got any suggestions??

FTFY

When you say it doesn't fire off the button I'm assuming it turns over fine but then just doesn't catch?

i dont think theres any point in that coz the bike ticks over with the stand down its only when u knock it into gear with the stand down the engine cuts off also ive tried to start it in gear with the stand down and it wont fire so i think the switch is ok ive ordered a stator it should come tomorrow as ive took it off and it smells like scale electrics that burning type smell

sounds strange :S i had a very similar problem with a DT50mx a while ago, everytime i knocked it into gear it would instantly stall :S could be a dirty connection?

Thumbs Up

Yes but if the switch is playing up or the stand spring is a little loose the bike will think the stand has been put down and cut out even if the stand is up.

It "should" still start in neutral with a dodgy stand switch unless the neutral light/ circuit was faulty too, telling the bike it is in gear all the time.

It "should" also start in gear with the stand down "if" the clutch lever is pulled but would cut out when the clutch is released unless the stand is raised.

The neutral and clutch switches over ride the stand switch.

Starting inhibitor switches are a pain, unless all three are working the bike won't run.

Sometimes if you have multiple switches gone you can't even bump start a bike.
