if you are planning a trip to Italy next year, maybe you can get some ideas from my trip last year. 14 European countries, 7200 miles, 32 days. You may want to take it at a more leisurely pace
Sardinia comes highly recommended!

Enjoyed reading that and the pics. Thinking of visiting Italy next year, although not to the extent you did. Looked like a great trip ____________________ Current bike: KTM SD1290GT

That's 600 miles a day. Presuming 10 hours riding time (leaving a few hours for sight-seeing, hotel checkin and out at reasonable times, and meals), an average of 60mph, which is hard to maintain unless you're on motorways or major multi-lane roads - more interesting roads will inevitably go through towns and villages.
I find 300 miles a day much better when touring, and that's still fairly bike-heavy with little enough time for sights.
When actually trying to get somewhere via motorways etc. though, rather than touring per se, 600 miles a day is a relaxed pace. ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4
