What a fantastic start to my day... I was riding down the A52 at 65mph... when suddenly I heard a klunky bang sort of a noise... lost all power, and had to pull in to the side suddenly... NOT the sort of thing you want to be doing on a very busy fast road with 3 lorries behind you...

I then discovered that my chain had snapped, and I was very lucky that I hadn't gone for a slide down the road.

I've just been dropped home after a very kind friend came out to get me and pushed my bike about 2 miles to his house, where I got tea & sympathy from his wife, and the promise that he'd take a look and possibly put a new chain on if he could find one in his archives for me, and if not, just to get a new one and he'd sort it asap.

I'm sorry to say that no b*gger stopped to see if I was ok, despite it being obvious that a - I'm female, and b- that I'd broken down.

Several bikes went past and didn't stop, but the classic was that there was a driving school car in the layby that I managed to push the bike into, and he didn't even look at me, and he was there for at least 20 minutes while I waited to be collected.
What's the world coming to eh? I wouldn't even think twice about stopping for a broken down biker to see if I could help at all, or maybe I'm just too nice...

Oh I know, I had the same kind of experience years ago when I broke down on a dual carriageway in my car, sat holding traffic up so you'd think someone would have at least offered to move the car (even if it was just to speed their own journey up!) but no bugger stopped for about half an hour, until a couple of guys in a white van went past and offered to push it for me into the side road a bit further down. I could have kissed them! Eventually Mr AA turned up and sorted me out and sent me on my way, but since then I vowed if I ever saw anyone broken down I would stop, they may not need help, and I may not be able to do much to help, but it's nice to ask hey.

What does the fact your female have to do with anything? No one's ever stopped for me either. You want equality, you got it.

Bad luck on the chain, well done for staying upright, and not causing yourself any damage.

Agree with the above. Like being female gives you some sort of born right have help. Laughing

Glad you are ok, and that the bike is too! Normally the chain can take a chunk out of the engine casing.

Then give up the vote or get your tits out.

Poor show though, if we don't hang together, we shall surely hang apart, and all that.

Then again when my Sierras' gearbox packed up and I came to a halt facing up a hill going out of the Hemel Hemstead a trucker built like Geoff Capes actually pushed my car about fifty yards up the hill to a service station!

I try to stop for people, but sometimes due to speed and not realising someone is broken down, I end up sailing pas.

I did stop for someone a few weeks ago who just needed a push start.

A few weeks before that saw a guy on the hard shoulder so came off at the next junction went up to the one before and rode down to help, but by which time they had gone, that was a wasted 5 mins.

HAHAHA... if you knew me, you'd know that I'm the last person to pull the helpless female routine, what I meant was that I thought that folks might be more likely to stop for a female than a male, but apparently not!
I fully accept that in life you just get on and do it yerself as best you can to the best of your abilities without any help, and I pretty much get on okay - usually.

Oh I'm shocked, shocked I tell you Shocked

What was that at the back, pictures with tits out or it didn't happen?

Very Happy Wink

On topic, have to agree though, passing a bike/biker at roadside with a thumbs up usually works for me as then I can see a shake of the head or another thumbs up or down to work out if it's worth stopping.

You forgot to read the small print. It's equal rights (when it suits).

Like when they only play 3 sets in tennis instead of 5 (why?), but of course want equal pay for this part time effort.

Anyway, glad you're ok and had a nice friend to help you.

Sorry to hear you've had such a shitty day. If that happens to me before I've got my confidence back, I think I'll sell the bike and take up knitting...

As for help, the squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that. If there is anyone around who could help, ask them. Like you, as a girlie, I don't expect special treatment but I'm not embarrassed to ask if I need help. (Normally because I'm already embarrassed about what I need the help for in the first place...).

It IS maintained, but I don't think anyone could anticipate it snapping for no good reason - especially after having had a full service on the bike only 6 weeks ago...

I broke down on the moor between warslow and the mermaid out in the peak district last summer. After pushing the 6r along the road for a mile or so dressed in a 1 pieace race suit with boots helmet etc I gave up and phoned the Mrs to come out and fetch me. I was just about to bid fair well to my bike, as I left her out in the gloom when a cattle wagon pulled up and offered me a ride, the good Farmer drove me and my bike back home to Leek and would't even take a drink for his time. A real Gent.

In my experience people are very nice and helpful. 99% of strangers will help you if they can, unless:

1) You are in London
2) You are on a motorway
3) What is happening to you looks hilarious

In the event of 3) you may draw a crowd and pennies will be thrown in the nearest container that you shall be entitled to keep.

Also, do all women think the way you do? "I'm a woman! Why is no man stopping to help me?"
Eh?

See my reply many posts above - you're all taking what I said out of context now.
...and at the risk of being boring - I've been on the bike/rock/music scene for 30 odd years and DO NOT EXPECT HELP BECAUSE I AM FEMALE!!!!!!!
