Well the time has come for Pepperami to get on his bike and see another bit of his kingdom Smile .
I`ve decided to go to the most westerly point on mainland Britain ie Ardnamurchan Point.

I`m going to make an early start on bank holiday Monday and get through a lot of England before most people have finished breakfast.
The plan is to pick up the A14 -> M6 -> pick up the A75 just past Carlisle, that where the proper ride will start Smile .

I`m planning to spend the night at a B&B in Irving for the first night.
The second day should see me at my destination via Glasgow and the A82 and staying in Fort William for the night.
Third day should see me back into England and an overnight stop in Penrith.
Fourth day , back to stinky Ipswich via the M6 and the A14 Sad .

My trip to JOG earlier this year taught me a few lessons that should make this trip a little bit more pleasurable and stress free.

I`ve decided to use the Hyosung GT 250 instead of the Kawasaki as it will be a little bit more of a challenge doing it this way.
I`ve got maps and sat-nav so getting lost should`nt cause to much of a proplem? I hope?, possibly? Confused

Has anybody else been up there?
Any problems?
Any pointers?

May I suggest that instead of heading towards Glasgow for the A82, you should head over the A71 Kilmarnock Strathaven road to the M74, head up and turn on to the M73 then the M80 nad M9 to Dunblane, take the A84 join the A85 andpick up the A82 at Crianlarich, that way you will miss out Glasgow and Loch Lomond they both are bitch roads at this time of year, a lot of tour buses and caravans on that road, and the route I suggested is far better for, progress, photos, and very good bike road once you come off the motorway, looks as if you might not have to much time to spare though, another suggestion to keep away from Glasgow is ( maybe your doing it anyway! ) get on to the A737 Castlepark, Kilwinning road towards Paisley, get onto the M8 at Abbotsinch and head for the M898 and Erskine bridge, which is an awesome Bridge, and over it for the A82 Dumbarton Fort William run, which ever way you choose have fun and I hope the weather is kind to you. Thumbs Up

Couldn`t agree more! The route you have chose is ok but a bit random. If you do ge the 2nd way Harscot mentioned, it`s worth travelling along past the Cameron House at Loch Lomond and cutting off to the old MOD military road, I`m sure someone on here or in the scottish section will know the road numbers. You pass the naval base and eventually come to the pit stop cafe for a brew. You can then head over to Tarbet and go to Fort William that way.

Be warned though, anywhere near Loch Lomond is rife with unmarked cars, bikes, mobile speed traps etc (got the points to prove it Sad )

Also, if I was staying in Fort William, I`d simply drive by it and stay in Mallaig. (West Highland Hotel let you keep your bike in their massive storage area/garage type thing) It`s a few quid to cross over to Skye the following day and you can drive down the Spean Bridge rd.

Good luck whatever you do and you could let the chaps in the Scottish Section know you are coming up as there are a few folk that stay up that way. Thumbs Up

Avoiding Loch Lomond and Glasgow to stay away from the traffic = noted Thumbs Up

Looking on the maps at the roads you suggested Thumbs Up Smile

or , if your staying at Irvine you could head up the A78 coast road to Gourock and get ferry to Dunoon then head up to Inveraray then Dalmally and onto Tyndrum(A82) , totally missing Glasgow and Loch lomond and gettin some fantastic roads to boot. After North Ballachulish you pass Corran ferry to Ardgour (only 5-10mins) then heading to Ardnamurchan Point the first 10 miles are 2 way then next 30 miles are single track with passing places. good fun but challenging. watch out for sheep/cows/shit/gravel !
enjoy. Thumbs Up
