Hypothetical question.

Where I live there is no requirement for an MOT for a motorcycle.
So if I hopped on a ferry to Italy then rode to the UK and spent a week riding around.

What happens? Shifty

I'd assume that as it isn't registered in the UK, it doesn't need an MOT. You wouldn't need to tax it in the UK either.

There's no requirement for an MOT here in the Isle of Man either and I've had no problems riding in the UK without one.

I'm actually surprised, never really thought too hard about it.
It'd be nice giving plod a cheery wave, as you left them empty handed. Laughing

You could probably still get done under construction and use or similar if there was a fault with it and you were caught riding it though so make sure it is good before setting off.

When you coming to the UK Sid?

Next years BBQ, probably!

As I said it's hypothetical anyway, the fact is, it's very difficult to get off Cyprus with a vehicle, there are no RO-RO ferries.
What you have to do do is book your vehicle onto a cargo ferry, book a flight for yourself and hopefully meet your car/bike at the other end.
I know someone who's done it but they said it wasn't worth the months of planning and cost.
The other downer is you cannot insure your vehicle, against damage, while in transit and I've heard a few horror stories!

Have you started to look at maybe hiring a bike here?
I know a few companies on London do it as on another forum a couple of Yanks came over to tour Scotland. You'd just have to work out the cost versus shipping/potential damage/etc.

Failing that anyone here got a spare you could borrow and get insurance on for a week or whatever? (e.g. eBike monthly?).

Paddy, very kindly, loaned me his bike, and added me to his insurance this year, (although I have a sneaking suspicion he was using me as a guinea pig). Wink Laughing

I looked into hiring a bike, but it was so much hassle and money, compared to what it is here, I didn't bother.

Depending on the dates for next years festivities, I'll probably combine with a trip to my parents, in Scotland , and hire a car for the duration, cheaper than hiring a bike, unfortunately!

However if anyone wants to add me to their bike insurance I've still got a UK licence and, obviously, i'll cough up the cash! Mr. Green

Pyro, that's cool. Karma

I was trying to get my brother to store a bike for me, to use whenever I came over, but he wasn't playing ball, no space, too many fookin' jags on his drive! Rolling Eyes

If you need, there is always a garage and shed here for storage, obviously its a bit out of the way but the offer is also there.

Can you not just charter a boat and sail it to the nearest mainland with bike onboard?

For political reasons, that will become obvious, the nearest mainlands are out of bounds.

Turkey is the nearest, but they'd stamp my passport and they wouldn't let me back in to Cyprus with that stamp on it.
The next nearest is Syria, and I ain't going there! Shocked

It's quite possible to lose a page of a passport. Some may say its illegal but in my very recent experience, everything will be fine. I got through Ukrainian customs and UK customs with a passport with a ripped out page with a Russian visa attached - and "FUCK RUSSIA" written in indelible ink on the visa. The Ukrainians thought that was hilarious. On both occasions I forgot to take it out of my passport because my memory is equivalent to an 80 year old's.

Just make sure you rip carefully; don't want your whole passport falling apart! Wink
