Hi, I was in my local garage recently and this bloke started talking to me, wasn't really paying that much attention as he was really just waffling on about nothing but he did say something about that once I had passed my test to get an older 400cc - 600cc bike 15 years old or older as then it would be classed as classic insurance which would drop the price by a fair bit I thought this would be worth considering as my bike is currently 14 years old. Anyone have any thoughts.

I've heard similar things but how true they are I cannot say. My bike is 18 years old so I'm interested in this also!

I should really pay more attention to my elders as he said that he worked with or at an insurance company, think it's with because he also gave me a couple of pointers on how to repair some cracks on my fairings.

Hi

I have classic insurance on a load of the bikes. The exact terms vary on the insurance company, with mine treating bikes over 10 years old as eligable for classic insurance, and they were also interested in the overall average age being over 10 years (hence why I landed up with an 8 year old RS125 on classic insurance).

Most will also limit mileage, with mine being limited to 5000 miles a year between all the bikes on that policy.

Most companies will insist that you have other vehicles for normal use. They will not cover you for commuting on a daily basis (they told me that very occasional use when commuting was fine, but I tend to only take one to work when I want to go somewhere on it from work).

A lot have a minimun age limit. Think I cannot have a named rider under 30 on my policy (I have Charlotte, my father and a friend as named riders), but not sure what the minimun age is for the main rider (probably 21).

Other problem is that you do not build up any no claims bonus on a classic policy.

For me it is around £330 for the Bimota, FZ750 and about 5 125s on the classic policy.

All the best

Keith

Thanks for that keith, do you have any names to hand just to see if they would consider insuring me and how much it would be, just curious really, I need to work on my no claims at my age.

Hi

My insurance is with Aon. Also worth trying people like Carol Nash.

All the best

Keith
