In a word yes. Your paper bit and your photo card must be present when you attend or so I was told when I did mine. I believe you have to have both bits of it together for it to be 'valid'.

Funnily enough I did my course today. They only looked at my card part of the license to confirm my identity, so you should be ok.

Did mine at huntingdon racecourse, and what you think it's going to be is just about right. pretty dull but with some interesting bits thrown in.

When I did mine I got to spend the morning in a "classroom" being lectured on how to tell what the speed limit is on a given road, what my stopping distances might be and a refresher of bits of the highway code and the afternoon driving around Knowsley in a Corsa doing a running "hazard awareness" commentary for the course leader.

He did mention that he knew I rode a bike cos I was the only person he had seen for a long while who checked for traffic coming across traffic-light controlled junctions even though I had a green light - he said it was only ever bikers who were that aware!

It depends on where you were caught. Some counties let you choose the venue, some don't.

I got 'lucky', my course venue was 5 mins walk from my house.
I was expecting some road carnage pics tbh but theres nothing like that.
One or two interesting points but most of it had me glazed over. Sleeping

They're run by commercial outfits totally not always owned by the Chief Constable's brother-in-law so turn up with your photocard and ask them if they want paying or not.
