Just had a rear puncture repaired which was a very small nail. What methods are used these days?? Ive only ever repaired car tyres but always used a mushroom style plug which has a metal core, drill the puncture hole out to around 5-6mm then pull the plug thorugh and bond in from the inside. Always leaves a small visible plug of rubber.
Just picked up my tyre from being repaired and theres no sign of any plug poking its head out. The small tear/puncture damage is still visible where the nails been taken out but no sign of any plug or repair from the outer surface.
Do they use other methods these days? |

I just put a 6mm mushroom in my Bandit tyre today, bought 10 of them off eBay for £12, after pulling a broken drill bit out of it on Friday. Gonna get some 3mm ones now too as I have a new tyre with a tiny wire poking through it to fix and I don't fancy drilling a 6mm hole in it for no good reason. Perfectly acceptable on a bike.
I did repair a tyre last year with an internal patch only and it leaked after a couple of weeks, though to be fair it was probably my fitting that was at fault. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

I use different sizes of mushroom type depending on the size of the hole. I don't have problems with them. ____________________ Current bike: VTR1000F Firestorm. Previous: Firestorm (written off) - XJ600 Divvy - NSR125 - DT125 and a load of offroaders. |
