Hanging a right foot in France, whats itt all about. Ive seen a few riders do it, mainly when over taking and not pulling on, but going on and taking a second vehicle. Is it a sign that theyre doing the above?

Any ideas?

It is a way of saying thanks to the vehicle behind you usually if they have moved to the side to give you room to pass. Thumbs Up

I sometimes wave a foot rather than a hand, especially if I'm overtaking at a rapid pace and looking to cut in sharp to avoid oncoming vehicles or traffic islands.

The Police in France are known for pulling you if you only have 1 hand on the bars, therefore it is common practice to use your foot.

It's the most common way of saying thanks over here too! At least it is in & around London.

I don't think I'm supple enough to get my foot on the bars though. Crying or Very sad

people i ride with occasionally 'hang a right foot' when overtaking as a way to say 'its safe to follow me if you want' as they obviously have a better view of the road.
Well...thats what i think they mean, i follow them anyway Laughing

What a lovely Christian gesture. That really restores my faith in mankind.

I'm sure we can go for a few bike runs when we get to heaven.

Very Happy

it can also mean to the bike behind "I`m aware your their, & its safe to pass me" and is usually indicating which side to pass

I have never heard or seen that before. If this isn't a piss take, I reckon virtually no cagers know that they are being thanked by some biker shaking his leg.

Thanks all. Biked for years and never seen it in the UK. Seems a nice gesture tho and a good tank slapping stopper after a close pull in

I do it but that's because I spent a few years living in France. It's when I have my hands full of clutch and throttle that I have to do it - quite common filtering in traffic.

I'll put my hand up to say thanks otherwise.

And thinking about it, I did see a guy on an R1 doing it when I let him past on the North Circ ages ago. From recollection it was blue but I can't really remember.
