Anyone out there ever done it before or recommend any good knifes to start with. Looking at cheap but good if possible.

A small bandsaw or jig saw would do that. Hoby Bandsaw

You can get smaller hobby bandsaws, about the size of a shoe box that will do that sort of thing, you just need to spend more than 20 seconds looking like I did.

How about you just try your hand at it first, go whittle some sticks with a pen knife. If it looks better than a simple anti-vampire device consider it a bit further. It would need to be pretty good to be sale worthy, even if it is i.e. a hippy shop selling stones and glass beads healing crystals.

You can get small kits of basic wood carving tools, knives chisels etc. Just as important would be the material you were working with, research it properly before spending money. knife kit i.e.:

One thing that is quite cool is a spoon carving knife - for doing the bowls of spoons. My younger bro is a bit of a knife/gun/bush craft anorak and has one like this, bought from a guy that makes them on a forum for £25 ish. Bro said the eBay versions suck though:

Have a look at the "Axminster" tools website or catalogue, it should give you a rough idea of what's available and how much you need to spend!
