What's a reliable 125cc bike to get, i generally don't want to spend more than 600 and i don't really know where to look for bikes, gumtree seems dodgy and not sure about ebay. The cg125's look reliable but not too pretty and just a bit flat. This is my first post, just wondering, haven't done my CBT yet.

How old are you?
Have you budgeted separately for helmet, gloves, & riding 'gear'?
What about insurance & running costs?
CBT?
And what about tests?

£600 is scraping the barel money for a 125, and you are looking at snapping up anything that has a running engine tax & test you can ride away at that sort of price, and cant afford to bee too picky what it is!

See webby for more bumph:-

I want to Ride a Motorbike! Where Do I start?

In the FAQ's is where to look, and what to look for.

BUT starting place really is to sort your CBT. Get that done, instructors will clue you up on a lot of what you need to know, and offer advice on expensive purchase choices, might even have local knowledge to help you out, and may even know some-one who they have just got through tests that has a 125 they want to get rid of to fund a big-bike.

Do the course, find out IF you can ride a bike, if you ENJOY riding a bike, and whether its worth going ahead with the plan, before spending any 'big' money.... and get some clues and pointers where to take it after.

I'm 19.
I could spend 50-100 on a helmet. My dad has other gear as he just recently sold his Honda fire blade (this would usually be the point where you tell me to ask my dad for advice but he knows very little about 125's generally as he's rode mostly 1000cc for the past 15/20 years. )
I got quoted £250 for a Honda CG125, quite reasonable from what I've seen.
My mate got a fully working Suzuki eliminator 125 for just under 600, which i thought was crazy!

But yeh, why are 125's in particular so expensive? A scrapheap of a bike costs 3-600 O.o.
Nice to meet you all btw!

Brilliant COV

Buy a lovely little Honda C90 , if you have a low money income into bike's, very low maintenance needed, low insurance , VERY cheap on petrol, very good for your old add on, E.g exhausts etc ....

£600 should get you a CG in reasonable nick, maybe something like an RXS100/GP100. I recently sold my Suzuki GN125 for 300 sheets with 11 months MOT on it (just wanted rid of it and the guy next door wanted some cheap wheels) so cheap 125's are out there. eBay is rarely 'cheap' I find for vehicles of any description, probably best to search Gumtree/Preloved/local rag etc. View anything that's within your budget (Tef's right, you won't be able to be too picky with your budget), if the bike seems ok then do the deal there & then in cash.

Is you budget just for a bike? Do you have the cash set aside for CBT, new lid, gear etc?

I have a nice RXS100 for sale if that is any use to you?

You won't be able to do your test on it, but they ride better than a CG (Faster) and are just about as reliable.

Because you don't need a licence to ride one, basically, so many more people can ride them, than there are bikes for those that want them.

AND right now, despite the rain, a lot of folk are rushing to try and get their full A-Group licence, which you can currently do on a 125, ahead of new licence laws coming up in January, that will give a three stage licence, with testing on a 125 the first stage, and for an A1 125 'only' licence. (details of new scheme are in the FAQ's on that link I gave to my webby, btw)

All your advice is proving helpful. Tef, your guide is brilliant, reading it as we speak. Symomh that's a great offer, but i'm currently raising money as we speak, i have about 300 saved, and i am going to wait till my student loan comes in/get job again. So just curious, but the feedback is quality Smile

You could probably get an RXS, GP100, H100 or similar for £300 if you don't mind a bit of tinkering or "Restoring"

100's tend to be less desireable than a 125 so you will probaly get a better 100 than a 125 for your money even though performance is similar and in some cases better.

Another cheap bike, if you can find one is the Honda CB100N. The thing is though they are not that fast, with around 60mph being top whack. Very good on fuel though, the one I had would do 125mpg plus when ridden sensibly.

Any bike can be a peach or a lemon, there's no such thing as a 100% reliable make or model. Everybody wants a cheap 125, that's why they're not (cheap).

You'll be tempted by Chinese branded bikes. I've had two, they (individually) are OK, but you're taking a bigger gamble on them. Stick to Japanese branded if possible.

The thing is, £300 isn't even enough for a CBT, crash hat and insurance. Maybe get back to us when you've actually done the CBT and have the money in your mitts, and ask about individual bikes that are actually for sale.

I think you mean History. Geography is the study of land. History is the study of that which has already happened. E.g. battles. Wink
