Can you get anything decent for £100 or less?
I find 7" too small so looking for a 10" screen really.
Ability to watch 4od, bbc i player, use facebook, ebay, music, pics videos, GPS ideally.
Ive heard those generic ones on EBay/Amazon are actually pretty good, and i assume i should go for android 4?

If you can find a generic ten inch screen Android 4 tablet on Amazon for under £100, snap it up - my wife got one with a 7 inch screen on it and it's brilliant. I regret getting my windows tablet now, cost a fortune and is really let down by Windows 7.

I have a 1st generation 7" galaxy tab. OK they are around the £150 mark now I think but I do love it. I actually prefer 7" because I use it as an e-reader so it's about paper back book size. Mine is still running gingerbread though.

I got my misses an archos pad from carphone warehouse, don't buy one it's shit been back to the shop 3 times replaced once (both kept freezing and shutting down, they also weren't recognised by the android market/google play) and finally refunded this week.

Be very careful with 'Android' tablets.

I spent ages looking around and managed to pick up an Acer Iconia A500 for about £180, factory refurb.

Watch out for the version of Android it's running. Cheap tablets will run Gingerbread (2.x), the main brands will run Honeycomb (3.x) as a minimum. This was the tablet version. If you get one, be wary of upgrading to Ice Cream Sandwich (4.x), this is the latest (well, was!) OS that is designed for mobile and tablet. It's very processor hungry. My A500 hated it. I upgraded my Xperia S to to and it's as euqially shocking, and that's a fairly powerful phone.

Many of the cheaper options will have 'resistive' screens, which are not as good. As Plugger mentioned, not all will run the Google Play store. Some wont even have a processor that will run Flash, so kiss goodbye to iPlayer, 4oD etc.

I'd recommend saving up a bit more and stick to the main brands, Samsung, Acer, Sony etc. Should be able to pick up a fairly decent 1st gen tablet for about £150.

Oh. What should I do with my £80 HDMI tablet with ICS 4.03, capacitive screen and 1.2GHz proc? Send it back for being over spec?

I know - I'll replace it with this £74.99 10.2" tablet I just found. Thumbs Up

Some Chinese site. Never saved the link, as I've no intention of helping out the OP.

If it's in my history file, I'll PM it.

I have one too. There's a cyanogenmod stable release for it now, 4.0.4 goodness Smile https://get.cm/?device=p1

However, it's a tab heavy. I might be tempted to get a Nexus 7. The one on demo in CPW has a line down the screen though, which is a little worrying...

We have one in work at the moment, not had a chance to play with it yet (I have a Galaxy tab 7+ for the rare occasions I find a tablet more useful than my Galaxy S3) - no problems reported from it yet though.

I have the very same one, different make though and not ICS. Plays everything no problem. Skype and i-player too. Apparently an IPS screen is simply a must now though along with dual processors Rolling Eyes
