At 1am just got back from collecting the lad as the bike, Hyosung Comet Gt125, broke. Looking for come clues as to what to look for and check.

To explain:
Bike had to be left in a pub car park, need to try and collect tomorrow after work.

His story, coming up to junction, braked, knocked it down a couple of gears then went to set off and nothing.

Basically no drive. Can sort of put it in 1st (neutral light goes off) but bike doesn't move. Given the lack of daylight difficult to see if anything actually broken. Clutch lever feels solid but will need to check both ends of cable attached in daylight.

Prior to this he did adjust chain (tighten). Play in chain was OK and he's ridden bike OK since adjustment. I mention this as he did think chain now tighter than when adjusted. So don't know if any bearing on problem. I was thinking to check front sprocket.

So any advice or ideas welcome. Will post any update when I can see it in daylight. Hopefully it's something obvious and I'm hoping cheap and easy to repair (it's the bike's MOT, tax and insurance time in September so that's enough expense to start with).

Thanks in anticipation Thumbs Up

The cable holder on the clutch end is prone to coming loose in the older <08 models.

In fact most of the issues are on the <07 models. Thumbs Down

I don't think there is anything to add at all. I find it a little strange that you could knock it into first and it didn't stall or ride off. It suggests a problem with the drive train. Probably just something simple though.

Long shot but check the splines on the output shaft to the front sprocket, I picked up a Honda cg and the splines where almost worn through because of the PO trying to wheelie the thing

His chain hasnt snapped has it? Easy to miss if you only looked in the dark. Just a thought as you said the chain was tightened.

Now sorted. Removed cover to front sprocket to find nut and washer not connected to spindle.

Does not explain how chain got so tight!

Anyway, after slackening rear wheel managed to get it all back together and working. Have to keep a watching brief on how things go with chain and sprocket.

Thanks for all the advice Thumbs Up
