Hi there

My scooter came with a remote start/alarm key fob system which I suspect is the culprit. Sometimes, I can remove the keys from the ignition and the bike will still be able to start. I am able to depress the brake lever and activate the brake light, use the indicators, horn, etc too. What could be the problem, if any? I don't know if there's some kind of proximity sensor or something on the fob but it's bugging me. If I press either the alarm arm/disarm the ability to start without the key been in the ignition goes away - so it seems something fob related, to me.

It doesn't always do this. It did it once tonight when I pulled it into the garage and has done it once before. It's just so strange and a potential security issue. Though I use plenty of security devices like big chains, disc locks and the alarm on the bike too. =)

As it doesn't always do it I don't think it's something mechanical. It seems unlikely too seeing as the bike is new.

Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

find alarm, disconnect it. test it.

if it IS the alarm, rip it out and put in a cyclone C-11. £23 has all you need.

i once had a gilera with a remote start and i never once used the key in the ignition to start it, only to put the steering lock on.

with the gilera id hold the ignition off button and everything would turn off and wouldnt be able to be turned on without the keyfob..

the fob had 3 buttons:
ignition on/engine start
ignition off/engine stop
alarm arm/disarm

and if held in arm/disarm whilst engine was running it would sound off a panic alarm..

are you sure what you described is not normal.. try usung the scooter without the keys just the fob as you mention its a 'remote start' so you shouldnt need keys in it
