What does she actually want 20 quid for?
Hypothetically speaking had you done it- does it cost her 20 to have the cat cremated/disposed of by the vets?
Or is it just compensation to get herself a bottle of wine + take away to ease the pain?

Driving to a site this morning, I comes across a dead cat in the gutter. Instead of causing chaos by swerving to miss it (like the car in front did), I pulled up, switched on the hazards & got out with the intentions of moving it to the pavement.

Gorgeous, shiny black Tom, about 1yr old I'd guess. Still quite warm to the touch. Wearing a bright red collar, his name was Sooty & yes, a phone no' on the reverse.

Pops him in the tub & heads off to site. Phoned 5x during the day, no answer.

Just got off the phone at 17.15, I used to have cats of my own & I don't like to think I'm a heartless bastard . . . my last cat came home wrapped in a crotchet'd blanket that an old woman donates to my vet's, I'd happily have wrapped him up in that & returned him to his lost family . . . but she's demanding £20 off me for killing her cat ?

I'll bury him near to my Tom down the bottom yard, she can go fuck herself.

You've got the knowledge that you did the decent thing. Maybe it was shock on her part, who knows?

If you're cat disappears all you want to know is what's happened to them. . . .asking for money is the last thing you'd think of.

What a cow.

It was nice of you to stop and give someone the chance to find out where he is, it's not your fault she's mental/on the make. You did your best. Karma

I'm not sure why the last bit made me laugh so much, I can't imagine why she is demanding money off you, what an idiot, you can imagine how much of an 'Adele' spin on it she is putting at her end too.

If it was my cat id want it back, just to say goodbye myself if anything and get some closure, that last thing id ask for is £20.

Bury the cat, tell the woman to fuck herself and be done.

We've got one of those too. There must be a lot of bored old ladies out there with a house so jam packed full of crochet'd items, they have to give them away.

Either that or crochet is a lot more addictive than it appears to outward observation.

I'd be, severely, tempted to post the remains back to her, with link to this thread!

One winter a few years ago i found one of my neighbours cats frozen onto the lawn. I peeled it up and put it into a black bag an took it round to her house.

Me ""knock knock"
Her"Oh hello"
Me "Hi, did you have a black cat with a white face......" while pointing at the bin liner.

Karmic justice for my lack of tact is that she still thinks I hit it with the car.

£20? 20 slices. A pound a slice. Borrow a bacon slicer or band saw. Chill it to near frozen to make the slices nice and neat.

From what i can tell it is shockingly addictive. Personally i can't get the hang of it but i'm totally consumed by knitting. I've been ok all summer (only one strawberry hat and booties set for my friend's baby). . . .but now it's getting to cooler weather i'm eyeing up the wool stash and planning more cabled creations to inflict on Tiny Cornish Laughing

LOL That's outrageous!! Poor kitty having such a horrid money grabbing owner - probably better off where he is now then (would have been proper better if he'd upped paws and found a new home, but meh).

AFAIK you've no legal obligation in respect of a cat, so think you're spot on and good man for being so kind. I spent hours searching for one of my cattens when he went walkabout*. I'd be devastated not knowing what had happened, so even bad news would be more welcome than uncertainty. She's a total wrongun, even if it was the shock of the moment, no normal pet owner reacts like that, surely?!! Evil or Very Mad

*naughty little monster had obviously fallen alseep somewhere as he appeared all warm, dry and blissfully unaware of all the worry he had caused!

Oh, and it's 'fess up time!! Embarassed

In the winter I have been known to knit little squares into dog and cat blankets that are sent to Battersea for their guests!! Cool

Long evenings and all that................it's quite meditative and warmer than grafting in the garage doing more useful, but grubby stuff!

...............thanks for listening and please carry on...................... Mr. Green

I don't fully understand why you'd take someone else's dead cat home in the first place.

Having had Dogs and Cats all my life, I can easily relate to this thread.
If my cat was killed on the road, I'd be so appreciative of a phone call to inform me of her whereabouts.
Even if the caller was the person who did it. Accidents happen sometimes, and a cat darting out in front of a car cant always be avoided.

I hope you will one day.

Carry on till then. Tch'. One day hopefully, you'll understand.

I understand stopping and removing it from the road. I completely get why you'd try the phone number, even multiple times. I'm down with all that.

I think I might have realised why you took the cat home too. I'd assumed that there was an address on the collar but, re-reading post #1, it seems there wasn't.

Had a knock at my door the other night from a panicked neighbour saying something was in his garden and chasing him.

Run down road in dressing gown to something emptying his bin bag across his garden and a line of terrified looking cats standing on the opposite side of the path. I grabbed a garden waste bag, holding it up too grab whatever wild savage beast was responsible for the carnage and neighbour chasing...

Closer I crept over strands of shredded black bag.

Closer still over bits of half chewed leftovers.

Closer still over a dead teddy of some sort.

Reaching over to the bag I see the easily identifiable tail of a savage and wild creature....

It was a ferret! Very Happy

Cheeky little git! Looked absolutely lovely! Got it down the vet, left it with them till Saturday, if nobody claims it, its mine. Neutral

Not sure if I want too take it, we have a reputation for taking in waifs and strays (we shouldn’t have any of our dogs, cats, or assorted small animals), so everyone continues to dump pets on us in our neighbourhood. Would love too take him, just don’t know if I have the time / room available. We had one before and absolutely doted him. Soooo much character! Sad
