Aha! Welcome to the misguided CB125 owners club! Lol!
My MOTAD is in pretty good nick, it's just one of the headers has started to rust through. I'm not sure a whole new exhaust is the answer I'm looking for just yet, but where abouts are you and how much would you want?

While I'm here, I managed to balance the carbs today, seems to be a bit better now.

Yes!

Go find a CD125/200 'footrest assembly' on e-bay.
Solid 'peg' bar welded to a bracket assembly that bolts to the sump, and has a carrier for the side-stand on the left.

You need to get that, AND the bolts that attach it to the engine, then hack-saw off the benley foot-pegs.

Bolt that to the sump, on the conveniently sited bosses already there - job-jobbed.

I can use DOT 4 brake fluid in this right? I know the cap says DOT 3 but surely DOT 4 will be better?

Yes you can use DOT4 as readily available.

The difference between DOT3, DOT4 and DOT5.1 is basically the boiling point. It's higher for the higher numbers.

Avoid DOT5. It's silicon based and doesn't mix with the others (not worth completely draining/cleaning/replacing brake components).

Crib sheet for DOT3 and DOT4 differences here.

HTH Thumbs Up

Thanks Map.
I thought it would be ok, but as my cap only said DOT 3 I thought I would double check.
Well I swapped the fluid. When I opened the cap I couldn't see the bottom, it was covered in gunk. So I bled a load of fluid through, until it was nearly empty, then used some kitchen roll to soak up the rest and clean the master cylinder.
Filled up with fresh, bled through until I could see the new stuff coming through, topped her up.
Much better!

Well update time.
She's been running really nicely for a while, checked the valve gaps etc, so all good there.
Thing is, I re-tensioned the Chain 2 months ago and it has gone slack again already!
I'm thinking I might need to replace the chain... so where should I get one from?

Also, can I get replacement tubes for the Motad exhaust anywhere? I'm thinking just some normal pipe bent to match could be the answer, but who does that kind of thing?

Thanks

Despite the risk of disturbing certain members who don't like ppl talking about the CB125TD I'm going to introduce myself and throw a few things into the mix.

My name is Graham and I have a lot of older, rare bikes that take even longer to deal with but have recently got involved with the CB125 'Superdream'.

My GF's daughter bought one in the summer (1987 model) )and passed her bike test this week and I was tasked with getting it fired up after it sitting for 6 months not used.

She's using it daily but asked if it was possible to get a kick stand for it as she couldn't put it on the main stand.

I did the usual search online for the side stand and, via this thread and various others, learned that's not going to be possible Confused

I taught her how to put it on the main stand on Sunday so she doesn't want a sidestand any more but I'm determined to find one Laughing

According to the parts lists viewable online there was one fitted. 50520 - KC1 - 000/920 and to fit it you need bracket 50610- KC1- 000 plus some bolts and springs.

The bracket is like a tube with a plate at each end. The tube goes under the engine and long bolts go throught the brackets and the engine case to secure it.

There appears to be one available here
https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb125td-superdream-1988-england_model1408/brkt-side-stand_50610kc1000/ for Euro 31

Once the bracket was on the engine I'm sure you could put a variety of similar sized stands on from another similar sized (Honda?) motorbike.

NB there are 2 centrestands on Ebay just now. I read another Teflon post about repairing damaged originals but that could be a hassle for some ppl

As it happens, I have found a side stand in the scrap yard.
It was off a bigger honda of a similar era.
It was too long, and the two bolt holes are slightly too far apart, but I have cut down the leg and rewelded it, and sorted out the bolt holes.
I even got the bolts off the same bike and they are the same as those on my bike, just a bit longer for the extra mounting plate!
It's currently drying so I hope to fit it tomorrow if the snow has cleared enough!

Oh and if you need a replacement headlight bulb I worked out that you need a "410" bulb for original fit, or a HB12 if you wan halogen.
Took me ages to find that, and you can get both from halfords!

Cool. Can you put a few pictures up?

Was it just the stand you got from the scrapyard, or was there a similar bracket too?

On all the old Yamahas I have the sidestands bolt to a bracket which mounts on the frame, not the engine.

I'd always assumed all bikes were like the Yamahas. Is the CB125TD unusual in this respect or do a lot of Hondas have this bracket to engine set-up Question

Ok, some pictures as promised.
Now, please don't go mad, as I've only really half done the stand. It will be finished properly soon.

First cut about this much out of the leg: (its about 2cm)

https://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l68/jazzzyj/New%20Bike/cutoff_zps5b8fd758.jpg

Then weld up, making sure you line up the foot the same way! Then paint and fit with slightly longer bolts:

https://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l68/jazzzyj/New%20Bike/standsmall_zpsd79a606c.jpg

Here you see where the bolts don't quite line up, This is the next bit to get right, Not 100% sure how to do this bit yet.

https://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l68/jazzzyj/New%20Bike/standsmall2_zpsaa026ed3.jpg

And now you see the lean angle:

https://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l68/jazzzyj/New%20Bike/angle_zps7ad3f955.jpg

I think that looks about right! The only issue is that the stand *just* touches the centre stand lever when going up and down, so I might need to give that a tweak.

Also, today I fitted my heated grips. I wired them right to the battery as I wasn't sure where else I could wire them to. I guess this means I will have to double check to turn them off after use!

Find a wire that goes live when the ignition is on. Wire a relay to that and wire the grips to the battery through the relay. Smile

Hats off to you. Thumbs Up

So you've went for the more common approach where the stand is mounted to the frame rather than the engine.

The stand looks like it belongs on the bike.

What type of bike did it come off?

A little addition to the CB125TD(s) stand topic here.

As mention before the gf's daughter has forgotten about a side stand as she can get her CB125TD up on the main stand no problem now.

However, last week, I got a text saying her main stand was falling off.... It was a cold winter night and I couldn't see exactly what was going on but we tie-wrapped the thing to the swing arm so she could get home and I ordered a pin off Ebay as the end has sheared off the one on the bike.

There was a genuine NOS Honda part for £6 on Ebay but it was in South Africa so might've took a while to get here so I went for a used Jialing 125 33 part for £10.25 including P&P.

Anyway I set about fitting it on Saturday and one the stand was taken off it became clear what the problem was. The stand was corroded onto the old pin. The pin itself shouldn't really need to move. I guess the stand is supposed to rotate round the pin but with this one the pin has sheared itself at one end and worn the frame hole oval at the other.

The strange thing was that one I'd hammered the old pin out the stand there was no sign of any grease but there was paint on the pin. Strange

The bike can now be used safely again but next job will be to repair the frame with welding.

One last observation is that the pin was inserted from the RHS but the new one couldn't be put in from that side without removing the exhaust. Not sure if it matters which side it goes in from but it did make me wonder

used Jialing 125 33 centrestand pin versus knackered original

not too obvious here but pin hole on LHS of frame worn oval by siezed pin/stand

https://i731.photobucket.com/albums/ww318/foy9999/P1030024_zpsf286e606.jpg
pin came out with some hammering and still had black paint on it but looks like may never have been greased

https://i731.photobucket.com/albums/ww318/foy9999/P1030023_zps4c68b55e.jpg
these are the holes on the engine casings which the sidestand mount bar would bolt on through. I suspect there are several Honda footrest bars which could fit on here and could be adapted to suit the CB125TD

Skipped most of the thread, in a rush.

If you still haven't found the carb bits give these guys a try https://www.nrp-carbs.co.uk/shop/

Call them if you cant see them on the website. I'd be surprised if they haven't got them.

Well, I welded up the elongated hole in the frame and refitted the stand etc but when I returned to the garage the next night there was petrol dripping out of the RHS carb bowl.

I could not work out why this would be. i had removed the tank before doing the welding but hadn't touched the carb.

A couple of days later my gf told me her daughter always turns the fuel off to stop it dripping. She's apparently been told to do this by the guy who sold her the bike.

I reckon the float needle must be sticking but am reluctant to statrt messing with the carbs as it seems spares are tricky to find.

The carbs are not the CV type and have the flimsy little metal strip connecting the choke flaps. Anyone know what type of carbs these are?

Anyway here are a few pics. i also removed the generator etc when Iwas welding in case the current damaged the electrics
